Announcing a new Meetup for Boston Skating!
What: Frog Pond Ice Skating & Chau Chow City
When: December 12, 2009 6:30 PM
Boston Common Frog Pond
Boston, MA 02108
I usually don't like to organize Friday night and Saturday night events so I'll see how this goes. I hosted an event here a couple of weeks ago for opening day and we had a great time. I thought I would have another event here since they are lighting the trees this week and it looks really pretty and it's like the perfect holiday/winter event. We can meet at 6:30 p.m., skate a little and then get something to eat at Chau Chow City in Chinatown.
Admission is $4.00 and skate rental is $8.00. I would suggest buying your own skates. There are plenty of deals out there this time of year. I hope to host a skating event at Fenway at the end of the month and they probably won't have rentals so if that interests you, you might want to get your own. Also, this will probably be my last event at this venue for the season as I'll switch to the indoor rinks which have free admission and only a $5.00 skate rental.
FYI the Frog Pond (www.bostoncommonfrogpond.org) isn't actually a pond for those of you who don't know. It's just an outdoor rink that's frozen from underneath. I know some people don't skate on ponds for fear of ruining their blades.
This location is T accessible by Park Street on the red and green lines. If you are driving you can pay to park at the Boston Common Garage or drive around the Public Gardens no more than three times and you should get a metered spot. (I always get one there.) Just be aware if the meters go until 8:00 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m. or that the metered spots don't turn residential after 6:00 p.m.
I'm giving the option to RSVP "yes", "no" or "maybe". Please update your RSVP if your plans change. I'll also be combining this event with the Social Fun group too.
