Why would you like to join our group?

I'm just your average, run-of-the-mill software engineer that currently finds himself living in the South Shore area. When I'm not creating super secret societies, I'm engaged in a half dozen all-consuming hobbies or trying to realize some other harebrained idea. Since I'm always game for new adventures and challenges, I've taken on the task of teaching myself Japanese in the past few years so that I'm better able to communicate on my trips to Japan - whether for fun or when visiting relatives. I've always been curious about language groups as a way to practice a language while having fun and meeting new people. Joining a group has been on my list of things to do for a while now, since I can only pick up so much by myself, and my schedule is now open enough for me to participate.

Are you a native speaker of English or Japanese or another language? Which? How fluent are you in your non-native language?

My Japanese is self-taught, so it's awkward, not very casual, and painfully incomplete. But it's a start! To put it another way, at my current level, I can only get into trouble with my woeful grasp of Japanese. I'll try to speak in Japan, but then the native speaker quickly overwhelmse me with a response that sounds like a Privacy Policy and Terms of Service Agreement compressed into a single breath, forcing me to call a time-out and try again in English to avoid accidentally saying something that starts an international incident.

What kind of activity would you like to attend?

Do you like to talk? Do you also enjoy listening? Me too! I'm so glad that we have so much in common. Let's have fun as we push the boundaries of our language skills until we're able to converse casually about UFO conspiracies in Japanese!
