The Boston Java July Meetup: Spring Integration

This location is shown only to members

Mark Fisher of SpringSource will lead a discussion of Spring Integration at the JAVA meetup on July 21st.

Mark says:

"Spring Integration is a new addition to the Spring portfolio that provides an implementation of Enterprise Integration Patterns (as described in the book of the same name by Gregor Hohpe and Bobby Woolf). The Spring Integration API extends the Spring programming model with the same emphasis on simplicity and testability. After a very quick intro to Spring for those who are not familiar, we will explore Spring Integration through demos featuring the API, the XML namespace support, and the annotation-driven model."

Mark is a Senior Software Engineer at SpringSource, a Spring Framework committer, and lead of the Spring Integration project.

The talk was excellent. Admittedly, much of it went over my head having had no exposure to Spring before, but it was fascinating to see how well it separates infrastructure from core service code and enables unit testing without the connecting the heavy pieces (i.e., a transaction manager)

I loved hearing about the new Spring Integration Framework. Especially from such competent source.

I think we should start promptly @ 6:30pm so as to leave more time for questions. I think a little more background on the topic in general would have been useful, only after I visited the site for the EI Patterns Book site did I confirm they were talking about Silos within a company's software assets. "Enterprise Integration" also happens in company mergers, I wanted to hear how the Framework facilitates that type of work. I thought the technical level of the presentation was appropriate but the Demos don't match the technical discussion depth.

I liked the format, with a short lecture and then a gathering afterward. Mark Fisher provided an excellent presentation. Conversation afterward over drinks and appetizers was interesting.
