The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (7:45PM IMAX 3D)

  • Dec 14, 2013 · 6:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Please note we are seeing the IMAX 3D Version of this movie !!!!

Showtime is 7:45.  Please note that if you bought your ticket and it says 7:35 they will honor it, but show time has been changed to 7:45.  I plan on getting to the theater around 6:15 or so.  It is showing in the downstairs IMAX theater so it will be crazy.  I will stand near the ropes by the concession stand until they let us into the inner lobby and the group will head in for seats as soon as they let people in the lobby!  If you want to sit with the group I advise you to GET THERE EARLY!!!!!

Once we have our seats we can take turns going to visit the facilities and snack bar before the movie starts.

Tickets are on sale at Fandango right now....I urge you to be smart and buy your tickets as soon as possible...this will definitely sell out!

If you miss the group ahead of time, come find us after. We gather in the hallway outside of the theater we just saw the movie in, to discuss the film a bit, allow for restroom breaks and to get a head count of all those who would like to go out after for drinks and munchies.

$$$$Managing the after event is much easier if everyone brings cash, so please plan ahead if you want to go out with the group after. We will be splitting one check for the group.$$$

Very good film. The overall experience was great. Beautiful cityscape coming to the theatre, great movie, trudging through the snow afterwards looking for (and finding) food. Hooray for restaurants who brave the weather!

Although the weather outside was frightful. ..the movie and company were delightful! I was rivited for the entire movie......totally awesome!!! Thanks to everyone wjo braved the snow to come and see the movie Also a special thanks to those who slogged through the snow to find an open restaurant in Chinatown for a late after event. overall an evening totally worth braving the elements for.

Good company makes *everything* better! Of course, the movie could not have gotten much better. Blew me away. Now I want to see the 1st and 2nd back-2-back. And I CAN'T WAIT for the final installment!

sorry to miss the group, i arrived around 720 ish, and had to leave right after the movie. The hobbits escaping from the jail cells by hiding in barrels was my favorite part of the movie.

What's the etiquette here? Should we try to meet up in line? Are the folks up front going to try to save seats?

      December 14, 2013

    • Lou O

Doreen will have a meetup pin, or look for the small group of awkward people near the rear of the lobby.

The bus that was cancelled was the busing on the red line because of construction...as far as I know regular T buses are running.

      December 13, 2013

  • faith g.

As long as u take the T, what have u got to worry about? This is what mass transit is for!

Where will we go to eat after the movie and will it be dinner or dessert?

    December 12, 2013

    • An O.

Doreen usually arranges for us to go to a place called "Rock Bottom," a kind of brew pub that has basic American fare. It's a about 2 blocks from the theater. Here's a link to the menu. What you eat (or don't eat--that's okay, too) is up to you: http://www.rockbottom...

      December 13, 2013

    • Doreen C.

Yup it will be the rockbottom a short walk fron the theater...they have desserts too. Depends on what you want...dinner or desserts.

Would anyone in this group wanting to see the new Hobbit movie that can't or does not want this movie in 3D want to see this with me in 2D?

    1 · December 12, 2013

    • Ariela

No. There is a 6:45 PM showing though, that is the closest to the time of the IMAX 3D one

      December 12, 2013

    • Ariela

There is also a 9:05 PM one

Thanks for the reminder about the showtime tweakage, Doreen. My tickie says 7:35p.m., but I understand the actual showtime will be 7:45, and that the theater will accept my ticket with the earlier showtime printed on it. I'll be at the theater by 6:15, too, D. [Doreen knows exactly what she's talking about, folks. Do yourselves a favor and get to the theater EARLY if u want to sit anywhere near "the group".]

    1 · December 10, 2013

  • Nygel O.

You can also go the the theater and buy your ticket early, you know if you're afraid of the Web, or want to be old fashioned like me :-)

    December 6, 2013

    • Doreen C.

If you are counting on getting them the same day, you could miss out. These shows often sell out. However, if you work near the theater or are in town for something else, you could go to the theater and buy your tickets ahead of time at the theater.

      December 6, 2013

    • Lou O

      Has ticket.

Hi I'm new to meetup .... Came across this site looking for rsvp code for a movie ... Just making sure this is free and kid friendly (of course for pg movies)... Thanks

    November 12, 2013

    • Doreen C.

Hello. This group attends movies together and everyone buys their own ticket, but the movie is not free. In general meetup is a social organization geared toward adults, in fact in the bylaws it says you must be 18 to join. While we sometimes see movies that are not necessarily inappropriate for a young audience, our group is generally set up for adult participation, including an after event that usually takes place at a brew pub.

    May 28, 2013

Nope...though reading the book before would be a good idea.

Oh I guess I have enough time! Was in a play version once, wonder if that'd suffice for knowledge...
