Elysium (7:30 IMAX Show)

  • This location is shown only to members

Jodie Foster and Matt Damon in the same sci fi flick...be still my heart!  This looks really cool!

Showtime is at 7:30, I will be at the theater by 6:30.  Because it is in the downstairs IMAX theater, I will wait outside the ropes by the ticket taker until they let us line up in the inner lobby and will head in for seats as soon as they let us.  To sit with the group, please come early.

In general, I arrive at the theater an hour before the show to start gathering people, and we head in for seats about 30 minutes before the show, so we can sit together. This also allows us to take turns getting snacks, etc., before the previews start.

Tickets are on sale now for this movie.  They have been advertising it for a while and I strongly advise you to buy your tickets in advance!

If you miss the group ahead of time, come find us after. We gather in the hallway outside of the theater we just saw the movie in, to discuss the film a bit, allow for restroom breaks and to get a head count of all those who would like to go out after for drinks and munchies.

$$$$Managing the after event is much easier if everyone brings cash, so please plan ahead if you want to go out with the group after.$$$

DARN! I arrived at the theater too late to join/find the group but it was fun getting there. It all started with my movie ticket - lost then found. This was my first visit to the AMC Lowes theater and after parking my car, I lost my way walking there!! (Where's the trail of bread crumbs when you need 'em.) However, I enjoyed the movie very much. Would liked to have had a more balanced Earth / Elysium background. IMAX was great and I look forward to the next meet up movie and meet you.

Sorry I couldn't make it do to a family emergency!

I had a problem with one of the major, over-arching premises of the film-that all wealthy people are evil simply by virtue of their wealth and that, conversely, all poor people are good/noble simply by virtue of their poverty-but, other than that I and agree with others that this was a very solid, very well-acted, very enjoyable film. Usually, I have difficulty simply following/making sense of the narrative of action pictures like this, but, I really didn't have any difficulty following the story of "Elysium," which is a real testament to the focus and clarity of director Neil Blomkamp's vision. Afterwards @ the Rockbottom was, again, awesome, with lots of new faces sprinkled in amongst the regulars. Thanks, again, D. & J.-and everyone else, too.

Intense! I would have preferred more back story and less fighting! The landscape images of an abused and overpopulated earth were sobering. Loved Matt Damon in his reluctant hero role and Jodie Foster's "accent" really got on my last nerve. I think a 2 and 1/2 star rating is right on target. Glad I went and hope to talk to some folks next time around. I anxiously await Ender's Game, one of my all time favorite reads.

Although I enjoyed the movie, it was obvious that a complex history and political story existed and I wished they concentrated a little more on that. The fight scenes were intense, but I think they were highlighted just a little too much. Jodie Foster was great as a cold ambitious politician and Damon was a good reluctant hero.

Good old-fashioned summer blockbuster fun! I give it a B+. The casting was excellent -- not a clunker in the lot! Matt Damon was believable and sympathetic. Fun seeing Jodie Foster branching out into playing villains. Loved Spider and his gang of bad asses. Enjoyed chatting with folks before and after the movie. Thanks for organizing, Doreen! :)

Welcome Cindy. This is only my second time to the movies myself and am still learning names. I find the group to be eclectic and the after movie dinner conversations quite good.

I know what you mean, Kristy. $17.50 for 1 ticket to any movie is outrageous. Still, I'm the fool who's paying it. Count me in for the after-event, too.

I just moved here. sadly what my employer thinks is a livable wage in Boston is nowhere near reality. So it looks like it will be matinees for me for a good while.

Actually, I don't think $17.50 is all tgat outrageous for a movie ticket....however what they charge for concessions is nuts!

    August 8, 2013

    • Paul K.

Absolutely. It is also true that you & yaw boyfriend, Mr. Sharky, are both outrageous AND nuts. :-p ;-) :-)

Just an FYI for everyone -- there will be buses running between the Kendall Square and Park Street stops on the Red Line this weekend. So allow yourself extra time to get to the theater if you plan on coming in that way.
