Parker (7:30PM Show)

This looks like a fun, fairly mindless action flick. Lets start the new year by watching people blow and shoot things up. :)

Showtime is at 7:30. I will be at the theater by 6:30 and we will head in for seats by 7.

In general, I arrive at the theater an hour before the show to start gathering people, and we head in for seats about 30 minutes before the show, so we can sit together. This also allows us to take turns getting snacks, etc., before the previews start.

Because the group usually sees movies opening weekend, it is a good idea to buy your tickets in advance, especially if there is a lot of buzz about the film.

If you miss the group ahead of time, come find us after. We gather in the hallway outside of the theater we just saw the movie in, to discuss the film a bit, allow for restroom breaks and to get a head count of all those who would like to go out after for drinks and munchies.

$$$$Managing the after event is much easier if everyone brings cash, so please plan ahead if you want to go out with the group after.$$$

Plot Summary: Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez team up to get their cut in the crime thriller, "Parker," based on the series of bestselling novels by Donald E. Westlake.

Parker (Jason Statham) is a professional thief who lives by a personal code of ethics: Don’t steal from people who can’t afford it and don’t hurt people who don’t deserve it. But on his latest heist, his crew double crosses him, steals his stash, and leaves him for dead.

Determined to make sure they regret it, Parker tracks them to PalmBeach, playground of the rich and famous, where the crew is planning their biggest heist ever. Donning the disguise of a rich Texan, Parker takes on an unlikely partner, Leslie (Jennifer Lopez), a savvy insider, who’s short on cash, but big on looks, smarts and ambition. Together, they devise a plan to hijack the score, take everyone down and get away clean.

Fun and terrible! Lots of vicarious violence and plenty of bad acting from the leading lady...who was apparently only hired to take her clothes off and throw herself at the first man who came along. Entertaining though.

FYI, saw a movie review in the Globe for Parker, and it gave the movie 1 star -- which seems appropriate! (it pegged all the flaws, including one actress's need to disrobe...)

I was disappointed in the movie, though -- he was trying to be Transporter (which I liked a lot), spouting "you need rules, I hate chaos", without actually _being_ the Transporter dude. Plus a weak plot. So I wasn't surprised to see the 1 star.

Thanks for the info Rebecca. Next week I am going to head out to see Bullet To The Head. That looks like its going to be a good one.

A solid, satisfying, unusually well-crafted "B" Action-flick, and-wonder of wonders-I didn't absolutely hate "J.-Lo"'s performance. Another fun time @ "The Rockbottom Brewery" after the movie. Thanks "a mil," Doreen. :-)

I would but I am not a fan of the acting skills of Jennifer Lopez.

Really torn about this one. In the "pluses" column: Jason Statham, Michael Chiklis, Nick Nolte, director Taylor Hackford("An Officer and a Gentleman," "The Devil's Advocate," "Ray," and others)and a promising action-entertainment plot. In the "minuses" column: Jennifer"I'm only famous because I used to date Diddy when he was Daddy, and because I showed up one time at some awards show wearing nothing but a slinky green dress and some tape"Lopez. You see my quandary...:-p (Message amended because the earlier version was just WAY to verbose. That's what I get for trying to be clever, especially so late at night. ;-p ;-)

      Doreen Charbonneau replied:
Well it is an action film and it is always possible Jennifer's character could get killed. ;)
Like Wednesday, January 2,[masked]:10 AM "[I]t is always possible Jennifer's character could get killed."

      -We can only hope. ;-)

      Tina replied:
It could be God awful, but gotta see it with my favorite movie group
Like Wednesday, January 2,[masked]:31 AM -Ah, yes. The sacrifices we make for the group. But I agree. Definitely worth it. ;-)

Oh ye of little faith...it's gonna be a romp of stunts, violence, bad one liners, car chases and of course explosions!
