December Book Club

Good News Everyone!

We had a poll for your preference of sci-fi (that isn't a series :-P), and you chose To Say Nothing of The Dog by Connie Willis for our book of the month!

From Amazon:

"From Connie Willis, winner of multiple Hugo and Nebula Awards, comes a comedic romp through an unpredictable world of mystery, love, and time travel...

Ned Henry is badly in need of a rest. He's been shuttling between the 21st century and the 1940s searching for a Victorian atrocity called the bishop's bird stump. It's part of a project to restore the famed Coventry Cathedral, destroyed in a Nazi air raid over a hundred years earlier.

But then Verity Kindle, a fellow time traveler, inadvertently brings back something from the past. Now Ned must jump back to the Victorian era to help Verity put things right--not only to save the project but to prevent altering history itself. "

We will be meeting at Comicazi on Highland Ave in Davis Square. There is metered parking all along Highland as well as a public lot on Day Street near Redbones and across the street from Orleans restaurant. There is also T access and bus connections.

See you there!

-Josh

I cannot believe it! I'm cat-sitting and the day for my friend to drop off her cat has changed to tonight. I'm disappointed - I miss seeing everyone and was looking forward to talking about this month's book. *sigh* See you in January, I suppose. :(

Due to the severe T Delays and the number of people who are unable to come tonight, I am canceling the unofficial pre-meeting dinner. I am heading out shortly, but without a decent timeline on when I can actually make it to the meeting, I don't think I can be responsible for a dinner.

I will be grabbing something as time allows upon getting into the square, but all I can say is that maybe there will be more luck next month :(

FYI: Red Line is experiencing severe delays due to police activity at Park Street. Apparently there is a suspicious package and the trains are not going by the station. I'm not sure how long this will last, but definitely look at their site before starting your trip to Davis.

So, out of curiosity, anyone want to grab a bite before the book club? I think that the general idea the last time I did this was to check out Mikes. Thoughts?

I'm going to try something new. We have been getting around 15-20 people instead of the 25 that we can accommodate. Mostly because people sign up early, forget about it, have a conflict, then don't attend. All while others are on the waitlist, thinking they won't be able to go. So no max this time and no waitlist. If we get too many people, we will work something out, but I think we may be self-limiting. Let's find out...
