Snowpiercer

Pre-movie dinner at Shake Shack Harvard Square, located at 92 Winthrop St, at 6PM.

"It’s been 17 years since we froze the earth. The few remaining humans live on the Snowpiercer, a train on an infinite loop around the globe. For those at the front, it’s a lavish paradise of drugs and sushi in the lap of luxury; for those trapped in the tail section, life is short and cruel."

Based on the French graphic novel and directed by acclaimed Korean director Joon-ho Bong (The Host), Snowpiercer stars Chris Evans, Song Kang-ho, Go Ah-sung, Jamie Bell, Ewen Bremner, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, and Ed Harris.

I realize it's been an eternity since we saw this movie, but I thought some of you from the post-movie discussion might find the director's take on the ending interesting :) Also, still ewwww.

    Surprisingly enjoyable

Sorry I wasn't able to hang out with ya'll before or after the movie.
It was so violent! I wasn't expecting that, since I don't know the director's other work. I almost wanted to leave but curiosity made me stay. The themes were interesting but way too dark for me to really say I enjoyed it.
The plot varied from the volume 1 graphic novel.
    Did anyone else read it?

  • Robyn

Wow- that was dark! It was different, the visuals were impressive, and the acting was actually really good. The storyline has some problems, but I'm glad and saw it :)

A bummer the venues were so crowded, so it was hard to talk.

I liked and enjoyed Snowpiercer considerably, in spite of its dark tone! And with all the subversion of our political, economic, and ~especially~ judicial systems, I also feel on a daily basis that we now find ourselves living in times are far from light.

I do regret, however, that I did not have any opportunities to meet any of you, with the significant crowding we faced while waiting to enter the theater. I probably should try to attend some of the "social" Meetup events, but I have been feeling a bit reluctant about all the "heart-of-Boston" locations that same to be selected as venues all the time.

I had trouble watching it. It was too violent and full of looming hopelessness. So I could not stay. Maybe I will get it on video some day and watch it a little at a time.

I watched this yesterday on my own and those things surprised me as well. I liked it overall though.

Many of us are at the theater lobby area.

Sorry guys, I tried my best but I'm still stuck in lab! I can't make it in time. So sad to miss this.

It got good reviews? The plot seems so trite.

    July 3

    • Chandler R

I've just seen The Host. It is possibly the ultimate 4th of July movie.

      July 3

    • Donald M.

As Roger Ebert famously said, "It's not what a movie is about, but how it is about it." Every plot is trite, it's all been done before and will be done again, but differently and entertainingly so.

I might be late. Turns out I have to stay in lab until at least 6:30. Hopefully there will be a lot of previews so I don't miss anything! Will people be meeting outside right at 7:00?

    July 8

    • Jerry

Oh, tough one. I'm not sure how many previews they will show. A few minutes worth, I guess. Unfortunately I will be in my seat by then. If we can, we'll save a seat for you.

      July 8

    • Haley

Thanks! I'll do my best to get out early and head over fast!

Pre-movie dinner: I will be at the Shake Shack in Harvard Square (92 Winthrop St) at 6PM if anyone wants to join me. I hope to be at the movie theater around 6:40.

I was going to go, but it turns out I gotta work on Wednesday. Thing is, I already bought an advance ticket online and there's no refunds, so if someone wants my ticket, post your e-mail and I'll forward you the purchase confirmation so you can print it out and use it to pick it up.

    July 7

    • Donald M.

Oops, disregard this post. It's next Wednesday I'm working, I'll be available to go this Wednesday.

    Hi Chandler -

If you are unable to attend our Snowpiercer event this Wednesday evening, and also are unable to schedule yourself for a different showing at The Brattle, I know that I've also seen Snowpiercer listed in the showtime rosters of some of the larger, more corporate theater chains, like AMC. Those opportunities, however, may be limited to some of the more suburban locations, i.e. cinema complexes in some of the towns along Rt. 128 / I-95, or even along the Rt. I-495 corridor.

    July 6

    • Chandler R

Thanks. I'm technically able to go to this, but chose to go to a different event in light of another thing with this group being one night before.

      July 6

  • Chandler R

I'd still like to see this, but something else came up. I'll see most of you on Tuesday.

  • Christopher C.

I want to go but I hav't to work??.

    July 4

  • Kristin R.

Is this something that is likely to sell out before the day of the event? or do you think I could easily buy these tickets the day of? (I'm not 100% sure I can make it and so don't want to buy them ahead of time)

    June 24

    • Jerry

I think you'll be okay. It will have already been showing at that theater for almost a week. So... again... I think you'll be fine.

      June 24

  • Desti

    Tickets are available all:

    Wednesday, July 9 at 4:30, 7:00, 9:30 PM

Which one are we booking for Jerry?

    1 · June 22

    • Jerry

It's a long movie, so we should do the 7PM showing.

      June 23

    • Desti

      Booked, see you there!

Snowpiercer just got a VERY good review from the blog The Mary Sue. I only read the first few paragraphs because spoilers, but she loved it. http://www.themarysue.com/snowpiercer-review/
