There was a great conversation about using JS to build e-learning systems after the "Cards are the Future of the Web" meetup. Christopher Tse's talk brought up some interesting possibilities. A couple of us who were part of the conversation are planning to be at the upcoming project night to continue the conversation and see what can be built. Anyone interested in ed tech is welcome to join us!

(I submit that autosubmiting on enter sucks.)

It occurred to *me* about a year ago that our JS-based interactives would usually live in an iframe and needed a cross-domain way to "talk" to the outer container--the e-book, course, whatever, so that your work in the interactive could be "driven" by the container, or so that the interactive state could be saved back to the container and assessed, etc. That means standardizing on a technique (window.postMessage) and more importantly on a standard set of messages for talking to such interactive content.

...Well, essentially the same thing occurred to Peter Tse, a research director at McGraw Hill Education Labs. I talked to him at the last JS meetup and found out this thinking actually led him to fund @tomdale and the rest of the crew at tilde.io ("the Ember guys") to create http://oasisjs.com/ and the larger conductor.js effort https://github.com/til... that was discussed at the Cards talk last week: https://www.youtube.co...

I saw the RSVP-by date in the email and almost thought that the meetup was going to be at 10am.

This sounds really cool but can anyone provide more details on the format of the night? Is it like a hackathon where everyone has a common project?

last times i've been, it was just a work on whatever you want.
Might be cool to have a themed night at some point in the future.
Nothing is stopping you from working with others who show up, though.

I thought "August Project Night" was the official brand of the meetup.

i take it that in this context, the event title is using the adjective august
