I use to think that religion was a partial root of someone’s prejudice or intolerance. But, as time goes on, I think I’ve come to the conclusion that religion has nothing to do with any of it. The largest component is simply culture, not to say that I’m one of those ‘everything is culture’ freaks, since there’s obviously some things that aren’t. Although, in these cases, I think it’s nothing but culture. The war that we’re in is a nationalism war. We’ve all been indoctrinated into cultures in one form or another, but we’ve just seen that objectively some cultures are more hurtful to mankind than others.
Most of this comes from my realization that even the most progressive person, myself included, is too pig headed to ever have their mind changed from what they already believe. So any new information is just rationalized into their own already set framework. The only paradox is that the framework was never theirs to begin with. It was incepted from the surrounding culture.
Religion fosters prejudice against people of no religious faith. It also fosters prejudice to a lesser degree towards people of a different
faith. There may be many reasons why one may not believe in a God, but I am sure that one convincing pieces of evidence is that a god would not support such prejudice.

Subject: [bostonatheists] (Yet another) plea for tolerance
"You have been removed from The North Shore Stargazers.
The person who removed you said:
Sorry, but I did not realize that you are an atheist. Being a Catholic, we
would not be good company for each other."
You hear about this kind of thing, but to coin a phrase, I never thought it
would happen to me.
Imagine my surprise getting thrown out of a meet-up I thought was for people who
share a passion for the cosmos. (the irony that many of our renown star-gazes
have been atheists seems to be lost on this gentleman.)
I won't post my response, because I'm ashamed to say I didn't use the teachable
moment nearly as well as Zach would .
But I am sending a plea out to my community for my most important belief:
Tolerance. Intolerance and prejudice is destructive in every community,
including our own. It starts with nonsense like this, and goes rapidly downhill
