DataViz at Boston Cleanweb Hackathon May 4-6th!

New York, NY
Post #: 2
Hi All,

I wanted to let the Boston Data Visualization group know about an upcoming Boston Cleanweb Hackathon that I am helping organize on May 4-6th at Greentown Labs in Boston's Innovation District.

It's going to be a great event - involving lots of DataViz projects - and I'd love to see you there!

"Cleanweb" refers to software solutions that address energy, environmental or other resource constraints. Sunil Paul, an entrepreneur and investor who coined the term cleanweb, often cites AirBnB, ZipCar, and OPower as popular examples. He elaborates on the concept in this presentation he gave at SXSW.

The Boston Cleanweb Hackathon is intended to demonstrate the impact of applying information technology to resource constraints. Participants are tasked with building applications that tackle energy, water, waste, food, agriculture, transportation, or other sustainability issues by leveraging web and mobile technologies. We challenge developers, designers, and business professionals on what they can do over the course of the weekend that might just change the world for the better.

If you want to use your DataViz skills for good - while having a lot of fun at the intersection of infotech, cleantech, and collaborative consumption, the Boston Cleanweb Hackathon is a great place to start.

Winning teams will receive over $12,000 in cash prizes.

Ready? Join Us! Learn More and Register Now

Participants can register individually or in teams, with or without ideas. You can also post project ideas on our HackerLeague page.

A Kickoff event will be held at the Venture Cafe at the Cambridge Innovation Center on Friday, May 4th 5:30-8:30pm. This will be a great opportunity to pitch project ideas, meet team members and learn more about the cleanweb. Industry experts will be on hand to propose applications and present data sets and APIs (eg, from Sourcemap, Azavea, Genability, OpenEI, Sunlight Foundation, Pachube and more). If you have or know of an API or dataset that would be a good fit for the Boston Cleanweb Hackathon, please let us know! Or come present on Friday!

The main event on Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6, will be held at Greentown Labs, Boston’s first cleantech incubator. For more information, visit: http://boston.cleanwe...

Hope to see some of you there!
