Talk with Nepali Feminist Activist

Hi New Wavers,

Come enjoy an evening with an important Nepali feminist activist, Bishnu Pariyar—Founder of Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON)—as she shares with us about her experiences of being a Dalit (previously known as “untouchable”) woman growing up in Nepal and working for women’s rights!

Bishnu Pariyar: a Dalit woman from rural Nepal who, since childhood, has fought against oppression related to gender, caste and poverty, founded Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON) in 1998. She remains the inspirational heart of the organization, which she leads with the help of a small Nepali staff and a voluntary organization based in Cambridge, MA. Her story is a perfect illustration of “the girl effect”, and of “turning oppression into opportunity”.

Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON): works with rural Dalit women who are repressed by caste and gender. Grassroots interventions enable women to build solidarity, claim their rights and act as change makers. Simple programs build their capacity through empowerment and rights education, skills training, and micro finance.

Don't worry she will probably do another talk in July when we're launching the Empower Dalit Women of Nepal meetup group!
