Movie night @ MIT: WONDER WOMEN! The Untold Story of American Superheroines

WONDER WOMEN! THE UNTOLD STORY OF AMERICAN SUPERHEROINES traces the fascinating evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman. From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s to the blockbusters of today, WONDER WOMEN! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation. WONDER WOMEN! goes behind the scenes with Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, comic writers and artists, and real-life superheroines such as Gloria Steinem, Kathleen Hanna and others, who offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male-dominated superhero genre. Discussion with MIT Women's and Gender Studies Professor A. Walsh to follow.

The film screening is free and open to the public. Let's meet half an hour before showtime (so, 6:30pm), and folks who are interested can go out for snacks/drinks afterward.

Great flick! I'm not even into comics, but I liked this documentary a lot. Feels like a sequel might be called for...

Hi folks. Just sent an email with my contact info to those who indicated they will be attending tomorrow. I will not be able to log into before/during the screening, so please keep that email handy. As a reminder, we will meet just outside room 6-120 at MIT prior to the screening. I will be wearing a bright green "BOSTON" t-shirt. See you there!

Hi everyone - Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday. FYI, the Meetup map isn't very helpful: To find the room we will be in, room 120 in building 6 on the main MIT campus, use this website and search for "6-120" It won't show you the exact room but will get you to building 6. Room 120 is on the first floor next to a small museum exhibit. (If I recall correctly it is toward the southern end of the building, nearer to the river.) We will meet in this exhibit area at 6:30 pm so that we can get together and find seats before the 7pm movie start. I will post a final group message on Monday and email those who RSVP'd "yes" with my phone number so you can get in touch with me the day of. See you soon!

I'm looking forward to attending! I've never been to anything at MIT before, will we be meeting outside the building? Is there a number I can call if I can't find it?

Hi Paula. We will meet just outside the room, which is 120 in building 6. If you plug "6-120" into the search bar here you will find it. Also, I will email the group with my phone number a day or two before.
