Soul City is a fabulous R&B/funk band that gets the entire room rocking from Song #1.
They have great singers and a horn section that will make you swoon. Folks who know this band tend to get incoherent on the subject. They choose great songs from some of the greatest artists -- Stevie, MJ, Aretha, Sam and Dave, Earth Wind and Fire and more.
Their motto is: You will dance. Resistance is futile. I have found this to be true.
The cost is $10 at the door. This band often sells out at this fun venue, so you might want to pay a little more online to be sure to get in. Tickets go on sale on the Tuesday before the show. The music starts around 9:30; get there earlier to meet and mingle with some other dancin' fools!
The ticket link is now active (as of 10:00 a.m., 9 May 2013).
Some notes on parking:
Parking is always a challenge in Inman Square.
However, there are a couple of good options if you arrive earlier rather than later.
You can park in the S&S Deli parking lots as both S&S and Ryles are owned by the same family. The lot entrance is on Hampshire Street.
There's also a small municipal lot on Springfield St. See this map. You should be able to see the lot on Springfield as well as the S&S between Hampshire and Cambridge streets. Please check the signs in this lot as I don't remember how late the meters are active (although most of Cambridge is now 8 p.m.)
Of course, there are also metered street spaces in the area, but you'll need to be persistent and patient to nab them. Allow extra time to find a parking space if you're arriving later as you will definitely end up hunting. Again, check signs and the meters; I think these are also active until 8 p.m.
