jQuery Mobile: How to develop mobile apps.

Why bother learning objective C when you can develop apps for the iPhone/iPad/Droid using what you already know - jQuery and PHP. The result is so realistic, users won't distinguish the difference.

Announcing jQuery Mobile:
jQuery Mobile is a unified user interface system across all popular mobile device platforms, built on the rock-solid jQuery and jQuery UI foundation. Its lightweight code is built with progressive enhancement, and has a flexible, easily themeable design. Join us for an expert presentation and overview from my good friends at the Filament Group. They wrote the book on Progressive Enhancement, they contribute to the jQuery UI Project, and now they are part of the newly released jQuery Mobile project.

BoothCamp (6-7pm):

In addition to the main topic, you can join us during the Social Hour from 6-7 for BoothCamp and a presentation on: Create professional looking buttons with CSS3 Join Jen Strickland as she will show you a great solution to make your buttons and links look and feel very professional - all with CSS. Whatever you do, don't waste time creating images as buttons and links. These solution use CSS and allows you to easily implement design and terminology changes in your sites. It's not too hard to do,but once implemented, you will love the results. Jen will show and demonstrate most of these solutions and then show you some of the better ones with live working code so everyone can follow along.

  • Review and demo of leading CSS button solutions
  • Live coding example adding CSS buttons to a site
  • Discussion and your questions

We just posted the video and slides for the very popular jQuery Mobile event with Filament Group. Special thanks to Todd Parker and Scott Jehl for their great talk, as well as Ron Verge for producing the video. Video and Slides are here:

I am new to mobile app development and I found the presentation quite informative and, from my perspective, it seemed to be something that anyone from beginner to pro could learn from.

Thought the presentation on jQuery was awesome. I live in Rhode Island so it was a haul to drive up to Boston but it was worth it. My day started at six in the morning and when I got home that night, around 10.30pm. I was so pumped, I downloaded the code and started to build my first jQuery mobile site. I am amazed at the speed of building; how fast, how clean it is. Once I get a handle on the code, I know I will want to play around more with the css to add my own personal styling.

This Meetup was well worth the drive and I know I WILL be back

A little too much detail, but I did get what I wanted, an overview.

Todd and Scott clearly showed how ridiculously easy it is to get started with jQuery Mobile. They were thoroughly prepared with plenty of images and code samples to illustrate the features and I was able to follow along on my phone by going to the documentation on their website, which is also full of embedded demos and code samples. It was also cool to get a look into their progress and the status of the project. Not to mention there were some great discussions at the bar afterward. Awesome job, guys!

Great presentation. Only one comment: in the beginning they asked if the sound was OK, and everyone said yes, but it really wasn't. It would have made it a lot better if the sound was clearer. Other than that, substance was great.

Great presentation tonight. I am absolutely convinced that jQuery Mobile is the way to go for mobile web apps now. Far cleaner design and easier to use than jQTouch/Sencha Touch, etc. Kudos to Scott and Todd for their work on this excellent project and terrific presentation.

Excellent jQueryMobile meetup. Very informative and approachable. I now plan to spend a few hours working--and completing a mobile site very soon.
The early talk on CSS3 buttons was packed with great info too. Thanks for the high quality presentations!

I'll add in iOS & IE functionality as soon as @LeaVerou figures it out. There are notes in the code about which bits to remove to make it viewable in iOS & IE.
