About what do you write?

Human dynamics, nature, tributes, itchy feelings

What do you enjoy reading?

Seamus Heaney, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath, lit journals, Stephen Dunn, Daphne Gottlieb, Maggie Estep, the Beats, Charles Bukowski, Dorothy Parker, Bob Holman, Marc Smith, Patricia Smith, Billy Collins, Lemon Anderson, Martin Espada, Richard Brautigan, Arthur Rimbaud, Rumi, Hafiz, Maxine Kumin, Wanda Coleman, Kathy Acker, Carl Sandburg, Gwendolyn Brooks, Bill Knott, Brother Blue, Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, e.e. cummings, Langston Hughes, Robert Creeley, the United States of Poetry, Nuyorican Poet's Cafe, Bowery Poetry Cafe, the Green Mill in Chicago, Lizard Lounge here in Cambridge, etc. etc.

What do you think is important about poetry?

My favorite poems capture the complexities in our emotions and experiences in a way that pulls out the magic in them. The format can reach inbetween the obvious lines of life, and I find the transcendence of the ordinary to be an important function of poetry.

I love writing, reading, listening to, and performing poetry.
