I'm PhD student at MIT working with numerically modeling processes in the atmospheric, particularly with respect to clouds.
I've ported a ~10,000 line FORTRAN codebase used to homogenize/process the US Historical Climatology Network's surface temperature record to Python with the help of NumPy, open sourcing the code in the process and engineering it to be easier to maintain, test, and further develop.
In my work, performance is key, so I'm very interested in developing my accumen with NumPy, Cython, and any other tool which helps me tackle big data problems.
Numerical methods for partial differential equations, meteorology.
