MetroRock FRIDAY

Meetup at MetroRock Gym in Everett.

Meet at the picnic table next to the cubbies.

I will go up to the picnic table area from 7 - 7:15 PM to meet people who prefer to show up at the regular MeetUp time. Check this MeetUp's comments and the Whiteboard near the bathrooms for a description of what I'm wearing. If anyone else arrives early, please write "MEETUP" and your name & what you are wearing on the Whiteboard.

If you have not already done so, please post a clear face picture of yourself on your profile so that I and other members can recognize you.

If arriving later, just come find us on the walls. Hopefully you can recognize me (see "Event Host" right) from my picture.

If you've never climbed here before, you'll need to take & pass a belay test for rope climbing. Call the gym or see the website below for more info. Full-access Day Pass $18. Bouldering-Only Pass $15. Mondays are Women's Night: Women's Day Pass $10. More info and directions: http://www.metrorock.com/

I recently got a membership. Last Friday, I put my name on the whiteboard for finding climbing partners. Later, somebody introduced himself, asking if I as me, assuming everybody who wrote their name on the whiteboard was there from meetup.com. No problem, happy to meet new friendly people. But wanted to mention you may want to clarify the situation in invites to avoid more confusion in the future. (I won't be there tonight). If somebody has their name on that whiteboard, without "meetup" next to it, they're not there for the meetup, but they're still looking for climbing partners.

Darxus: Yes, the message board is for everybody. However, the Meetup organizers typically do write "meetup" next to their names when they post their descriptions.

This'll be my first time meeting up with this group, I've been meeting in Nashua with the NH climbing meetup group for the past few months. Hopefully I'll be able to recognize you guys by your pictures :)

Ok, thanks for the quick response. One more thing I forgot. Can you use a grigri once you pass with the atc? Atc's don't work too well for sport/lead.

Yes, you can use a GriGri. Just make sure it's not the recalled version :-)

    Ben:

Welcome. You'd typically use an ATC for the belay test. And yes, you have to pass the belay test in order to climb at the gym. there's no other climbing test necessary, just the belay test.

Hey, I've never been to metrorock before. For the belay tests what do they use? Grigri, atc? And I've read they're website and they say that a certified belayer can't belay an uncertified climber. Do you also need to take a climbing test?

Last, if anyone wants to sport climb let me know. I have gear but no partner.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
