Introduction

I am a postdoctoral researcher in theoretical particle physics at the University of Colorado. have been active in the Socialist Party USA (http://www.social...) and the Socialist Party Campaign Clearinghouse (http://vote-socia...).

Is this the first leftist group you joined?

I helped form a "Socialist Youth League" in high school, which was not affiliated with any other organization. Ham-fisted recruitment attempts by Trotskyists convinced me never to join a socialist political party, but the SP convinced me otherwise.

What political issues are interested in discussing and becoming active around with the group?

Anything goes as far as I'm concerned, though at present I have very little time to discuss or become active.

Are you interested in joining the Socialist Party USA?

Member since 2003.

Would you be interested in attending SP Boston events?

I helped organize quite a few SP Boston events before moving to Colorado (by way of Taiwan) in 2011.

What David Schaich is saying about this Meetup Group

We need to build a movement for democratic socialism, for a radical democracy which places people's lives under their own control.

    Hi David,

We haven't yet met, but I wanted to suggest a non-fiction book for possible inclusion. It is: "The Next 100 Years" by George Friedman, published 2009, 248 pages (with maps), and available in book form or Kendal at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-Next-100-Ye.... I think it would generate some VERY interesting discussions. (Geopolitics) Daniel

I am new to meetup sites. I would like to learn. My highest tech effort has been Google Groups groups.

Hey, Thanks for organizing. Good discussion and my buddy Alex liked the group too. I like how you stay away from extremes and have a balanced point of view. I will try to find out about that movie space, and will let you know if it works out.
