Zinfandel Tasting

Zinfandel! Whites, reds, or rosés. European or New World. Perhaps a sparkling or a lush old vine varietal.

Boulder Wine Meetup member Suzanne is hosting this Zinfandel wine tasting at her home in Boulder. (Address will be provided to those who RSVP "Yes".)

Bring a bottle to share and an appetizer, main dish, or dessert that pairs well with your wine, along with your own wine glass - non-breakable if possible.

Please note this is a backyard wine tasting, so bad weather will force cancellation of the event. Bring along a folding lawn chair if you wish, have bug spray if you think you will need it, and leave the stilettos at home!

As always, know that our events often fill up, so do not register if you are not sure you can make it. If your plans change, please cancel with plenty of advance notice so someone waiting can attend.

Please don't take wine home, either full bottles or opened ones, without the host's permission. Extra wine is a perk that goes to the host.

Suzanne recycles and composts. Please rinse out empties before recycling. Please do not throw away the plastic cutlery; it will be washed and re-used.

Kudos to those who bring their own plates & flatware.

Helping the host with clean-up is always appreciated and ensures future events! : )

Alan's '09 Dry Creek Zin was the clear winner!!! The others paled in comparison - however, having said that - I was a fan of the DeLoach (2010 I think), the Immortal and the Rodney Strong. Suzanne - thanks for a great evening of tasting - and making us actually pay attn to what we were tasting!!! My sister and I enjoyed it immensely! Great fun!

I wish I had gotten a chance to taste Alan's. I found it difficult to focus while hosting.

The Rodney Strong Zin was a 2009.

Great group of people, many Zins to sample, tasty food, beautiful setting. Thank you, Suzanne for being such a gracious hostess!

    Wine Survey Results:
Well, only 7 people remained sober enough to write down their favorites of the evening; I wasn't even one of them. Some of those notes are a bit illegible....'cough'. But, nonetheless, the most votes went to the Rodney Strong Zinfandel. I can't get you the vintage because the bottle's buried in the recycle bin. Alan's Dry Creek '09 tied for second along with the Immortal Zin. I am pleased to say that with the composting, recycling and reusing, we did not generate much trash. If I had used uncoated paper plates, there would have been barely any trash at all.
Thank you for your efforts and cooperation with this.

And another huge thanks to Scott and Janeto for their help setting up and breaking down.
Thanks to Craig for the wine glasses, and to Dave for the ice.
Thank you Craig, Nancy, Dave, and Kelly for the tables.
And to whomever else who helped out that I may have missed.
I was out-of-body, so not sure what or who or anything else.
    Thank you,
    Suz

Thank you all for coming. I wish I could have met each one of you personally. Alas, our time was cut short by the rain.
I have some serving dishes left: a silvery metal rectangle, a plastic plate that's a pinkish print pattern, a white ceramic plate with tiny fruit pattern, and a metal fork.

Sorry Suzanne for canceling last minute. A friend just invited themselves over to my house. I am sure it will be a great tasting this evening. Sorry I have to miss it.

I will not attend tonight because of my swollen knee from a fall during a hike. Hard to stand for any length of time. Please enjoy.

Sorry to hear about your fall Joe. Hope you recover soon.

If you still need tables - I have 4 that I use in my jewelry booth at shows. They are approx 2.5 by 4ft, easy-peasy - just let me know.Looking forward to good wine & company.

  • Samira

Suzanne, I offered to bring a table, but now only plan to attend for an hour or so. If possible, could someone else bring another table if still needed? Sorry if this causes an inconvenience. I can bring it and we can make arrangements for getting it back to me, if that's the best option. Let me know.

    August 22, 2013

    • Suzanne

Hi Samira, I can get a table from another person, no worries.

      August 22, 2013

    • Dave M.

Hi Suzanne - I'm still planning to bring a long, narrow table, but - I may wish to depart at a 'reasonable' hour -I hope we can work with that arrangement...

  • Shanna F.

So, sorry. Sick with a cold and going to have to change my reply to no. Little craving for alcohol these days :( Hope the spot gets taken from the waiting list!

  • Angela (Oberlin) W.

    Hi Suzanne,
So great meeting you last night. I'm hopeful that I will be able to make it as the list is much shorter now! I also have a folding table in case you have the need.

    August 19, 2013

  • Nancy N.

Richard and I are delighted we made it off of the waiting list! Suzanne, we have two hard sturdy rectangular tables, one about 4' and the other about 6-8'. Do you want us to bring either or both?

    August 19, 2013

  • Suzanne

Thank you so much Craig, Samira, and Dave for offering to bring some more tables to the event! I think we should be OK now. Whew!

And thank you to Scott for being willing to come early to help set up lights, etc.

I'm still waiting to hear whether the classical guitarist is definite or not. I'll keep you posted.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for good weather! Bring a sweater and bug spray along with your wine glass, zinfandel, and dish to share.

And PLEASE do not let my dog out the front! Close doors behind you. Luke Skywalker will be joining the festivities (providing entertainment!) in the backyard with us.

Again, reminding you all to update your RSVP if you are no longer coming.

    Ciao!

Hi Suzanne - I have a nice, sturdy, long folding table that I can bring.

    August 11, 2013

  • Suzanne

Since I allowed such a large group, and have such a great response, I will need a few more sturdy folding tables for the set-up.
Please let me know if you can bring some. Otherwise, I'll have to drastically cut back on how many can attend.

I might possibly have a classical guitarist play during the evening as well! (For tips, please!)

    • Samira

I have a card table I can bring.

      August 11, 2013

Italian old vine zins are called Primitivos. I've had some absolutely scrumptious ones. Here's a link if anyone's interested in the zinfandel history, etc.: http://en.wikipedia.o...

If there's no location yet, maybe my lovely deck would make a suitable venue.

    August 1, 2013

    • Suzanne

Hi Caron, The location is my backyard in Boulder. I will send out the address in 2 wks, after all the rsvp's are sorted out.

      August 1, 2013

    • Suzanne

Hey Caron, Sounds like you have a good place for an event. Allan is always looking for more hosts. If you would like to host an event sometime, please contact him. (See box on upper left.) More hosts = more fun!

Don't hesitate to add your name to the wait list if you are wanting to join us. Things change, one never knows.
But, if you are on the waitlist and you change your mind, PLEASE remove yourself from that list, too.
    Thanks!
