There's another way to get rid of the blue light on computer screens we didn't discuss last night. It's a free program that makes the color of your computer's display warm at night. I can't compare it with other solutions because I haven't tried them, but it works. It's free for Windows and Mac and jailbroken iOS devices. You can find it here: Enjoy!

There are many professionals there. Concussions were not discussed, but I am hoping to acquire information regarding brain concussions. I was hit by a car July 2012. Per the insurance investagation I was zero % at fault, as I was parked at the post office putting stamps on envelopes. Anyone with any information regarding informtion about concussions or knowledge of a study where I can participate, would be most helpful. I had hoped it would go away after a year. I cannot afford a neuroogist. Insurance companies base injury by the damage to the vehicle---not the injury to the occupant. I was in a truck, so my body received the impact. The other driver whose car went out of control passed out behind the wheel with her foot on the gas pedal, for several minutes. Thank you very much

I filed out the form and requested that they e-mail me. When I took my slpa classes at Grossmont, we touched on TBI, but nothing about concussions. In A&P, we disected the sheep brain. I am very interested in learning what I can to better my brain. If you know of a particular course and location, please let me know. (I live in Santee.) I learned yesterday, via mail, that AETNA is discontinuing individual healthcare insurance policies soon, therefore, I need to do as much self-care as possible (my employer does not provide healthcare.)

    Discussion Suggestions:
    - Why do smart people do dumb things? Why do we act against our own best interests - even when we know we're making self-defeating choices?
    - Can we "escape" from early acculturation (values, beliefs, needs, etc)? In other words, can we unlearn any learned behavior and habits of thought? If so, how?
    - In what parts of our brain do we experience immediate connection/ attraction (to another)? Do feelings of instant dislike happen in the same way?

Great topic! I will try to find research or resources to bring that build on this idea!

As usual, it's a place and a time to stimulate our brains with great questions, and gain insights and new perspectives in all things brain... mine and others.

A KPBS Radio Lab will explore "What makes faith healing work?" Perhaps we could discuss this topic from a neurological perspective (and other related phenomenon such as the placebo effect, religious practices to resist evil influences, and many Christian Scientists' preference to minimize the use of medical treatment). We could also consider a recent article published by the Daily Beast: "Spanking for Jesus: Inside the Unholy World of Christian Domestic Discipline".

I will be late since I am teaching. Still hoping the date changes to Tuesday or Wednesday in the future.

My husband, Greg, is an author and is interested in the brain/creativity. He's funny & quirky. You guys will get along great.

    From Susi...

Having just come back from Europe and learning a tad of words in Danish, German and Czech, it got me thinking about the brain and language facility.
This could be a great topic. And, my mother, with Alzheimer’s used to switch from English to Czech to German to Hungarian in any order. Though what she says in any language these days lacks logic and syntax, she still sputters words in language groups.
Food for thought for our next meeting as you asked for topics

Another opportunity has come up for me and I will, unfortunately, be unable to attend the June Brain Club meeting. But I do plan to make in July.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
