Late last Wednesday night, the City of Rockledge adopted a fertilizer ordinance that is an affront to private property rights. Under the ordinance passed Wednesday, residents of Rockledge may no longer apply most fertilizers to their lawns June 1 – September 30, or face fines or penalties for non-compliance.
The City of Melbourne will hold a second public hearing and VOTE on a proposed fertilizer ordinance this coming Tuesday, March 26th at 6:30pm. We can't let Melbourne follow the lead of Rockledge! We need to big turnout of speakers to convince to Melbourne Council to adopt their proposed ordinance, as written, and to not weaken it by adding any additional unscientific restrictions, such as those adopted by the City of Rockledge.
Talking points are attached. We don't want Melbourne code enforcement coming onto your private property to collect and test fertilizer samples. We don't want Melbourne Code Enforcement turning into the Fertilizer Police!
Between now and Tuesday night, please also take a moment to send an email to Council members using this simple link:
If you have any questions or need additional info, please do not hesitate to ask. Your active participation in Tuesday's hearing will make all the difference! Thank you for all you do!
