At 6:30 p.m. we'll start gathering. We're trying something new this Thursday, accommodating people who may or may not want to eat at our topical evening. You can bring your own food if you'd like. If you'd like to bring enough food to share with others, even better. We'll spend the first half hour socializing. Plates, cups, napkins, forks, spoons, and some beverages will be provided.
At 7:00 p.m., the evening's topical program begins. The subject is The World Happiness Report, commissioned by the United Nations, and published in 2012. The report summarizes findings from the social sciences on the correlates with happiness, and it considers what would follow if nations gave more weight in their policy decisions to the encouragement of citizens' happiness. Although the emphasis is policy, the report covers other topics as well, such as the relationship between happiness and religion. Bryan Tunnell will share some highlights and facilitate discussion.
