Secular Coalition for Illinois: Conference Call

Some of the most egregious violations of separation of church and state are being promoted and passed at the state level. We need your help in starting up the Secular Coalition for Illinois. The Illinois chapter of the Secular Coalition for America will coordinate interested organizations and individuals in Illinois to monitor and take action on local proposed legislation or regulations.

Your phone. Anywhere you happen to be. There is NO required in-person meetup at a location.

That said, people in Chicago (Watch Cool Science Stuff, 3030 West Fullerton Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647) and Carbondale have the option of participating on the call with an in-person group, as part of a scheduled meetup event.

How to Participate:
Participants do not have to speak, and may simply listen in.

1. At the scheduled time, call in to[masked]
2. When prompted, enter the participant code:[masked]
3. Mute your phone when you are not speaking to avoid adding your background noise to the call.
4. If you want, you may follow along with the agenda which will be posted online before the call.

Volunteers Needed!
We are hoping to find more volunteers for the leadership committee. Send me a private message if you are interested or have questions. :-)

I listened to the call for the first 35 minutes and it appears the group is still forming their strategy. I joined the IL chapter website as well to stay informed about issues and legislation to see where I might be of use.

FAQ: What different roles are available if I want to get more involved?

Each state chapter will have an executive committee made up of dedicated volunteers. The exact positions of these committees will vary by individual state needs. Instead of specific titles, we have tasks to accomplish and are looking for skills suited to each task. For example, co-chairs of the executive committee will need to be leaders, organized, good at keeping communication lines open, and familiarity with local groups; our media interests are helped by someone who has written letters to the editor, social networking savvy, or comfortable speaking to the press; our lobbying goals are assisted by an individual comfortable with reading bill language or talking with legislators. This is not a comprehensive list and we are frequently in need of other skills such as graphic design or IT knowledge. If you don't have these skills but are willing to learn, we will be hosting trainings in media and lobbying.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
