Thank you all for your open and candid views. Kia, I agree with your wisdom and as Mike stated, sometimes I wish I had been more one way than the other at times. Our experiences define our dance with expressing to the world our deeply held values. Gert, Kristi, Elizabeth and John, it was a pleasure having you join us and hope to see you all regularly as with everyone. Russ and Laurie, you both were missed and I have a deep respect for the balance you both maintain and for bringing us all together.

So sorry to have missed it. Last-minute change in plans (i.e. Life) prevented me from getting there, but I will try again next month.

I like the personal stories, they connect us to each other and give me food for thought. Sometimes I'm passive and sometimes I'm assertive and occasionally wish I'd chosen to be more one than the other but that's what life is about. That and learning from each other. Thanks all for being there.

The meeting went very well. As I said, when I left home for school, I never went back and never went back to church either. Except on those special occasional visits as I behaved in family form out of respect. Everyone had an interesting an unique story, non of them shocking however, as I have seen it all happen first hand, being the SOAPM! For myself I am Jeffersonian, and Jacksonian; one for simple living and a man of the people. Therefore Atheist, Agnostic, or Nontheist, I support the rights of all to hold their own beliefs. I enjoyed the conversations thoroughly. As for me, after re-reading my definitions, I could be classified as a Transcendental Agnostic Deist. I won't define all that out here though. Thanks for the invite afterwards and I'm look forward to the next meeting..........SOAPM; Son of a Preacher Man

I liked the meeting a lot. Gave me a good feeling and interesting things to think over. Nice to meet these nice people that are willing to speak out an listen. For a first time it was quite intensive, but I tend to come next time.

Drat! Unfortunate change of plans and now cannot attend. This topic is a tough one to miss as I never talk about my beliefs -- simply because to me it's incomprehensible that anyone would ever care what I believe....

Hello! My husband and I will be there tonight, along with our children. (8 and 6)

Health got me jacked up again so I'll miss out.

    I will require babysitting.

    • Jason B

You seem way too old to need a babysitter, if you ask me. I could offer to do it some time though--I might have some fun games and activities you could play ;-)

There will be child care provided at this month's meeting, as well as next month's.

Can't make it this week, wish I could, but duty calls. Oddly enough I'll be at Bethesda Park only a mile away.

We won't be able to make it this week, since we have family in town visiting. But we'll see you all again in August, hopefully.

Gert, John and Ann - I hope the meeting goes well for you and that I get to meet you at the next one. The meeting goal is to be supportive of all others who are outside the "religo-sphere" - without telling them how they should express and live their non-theism. It's an open group so we can't guarantee what any individual might say - but nobody should be telling others they "need" to call themselves atheist and likewise nobody should be critical of those who like the term. We're here to share experiences and perspectives not advocate for some "higher" commonality. We let people get on a soapbox with their frustration and anger about religion, but not on a soapbox about what's wrong with other non-theists who don't see thing their way.

There is no angst here. I'm looking forward to it. Thank you for your concern though.

      Don't worry Russ.

Well John, in that case I will give it a shot.

Gert and John, there is no obligation to actively participate, especially for new members/visitors. We try to be as welcoming as possible. I look forward to meeting the two of you.

Gert, I'm not either but am going. I have different views on religion than most anybody I know. Mostly scientifically oriented. I teach W History and when I started that it opened my eyes to many differences in the world. Also, I've been discussing the concept of religion with my dad since I was about 8; he being a Southern Baptist Preacher and me being a "believing non-believer" as one of my good friends describes me. Come on and go and we can find out things together.

I'm very excited about meeting everyone & exchanging ideas & experiences. So happy I can finally come to a meeting!

Well actually I considered to join the meeting of next monday, because there are a lot of issues that I wonder how to handle my way of life against more general over-conservative opinions. But though I'm not connected to any church, I'm not an atheist nor agnostic. So I'm afraid it's too much concentrated on this issue. So I pass this time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
