Skepticism without Cynicism

Does an evidence based, skeptical world view  lead to a cynical world view, or can we find optimism without gods or theology?

We'll discuss this and related questions:  How do our belief systems shape our perceptions and interactions with others?  How do we react to other belief systems?  Do we feel compelled to shout them down?  How comfortable are we in acknowledging and respecting that they may have different aims?  How do we practice tolerance across fundamental disagreements?  Do skeptical world views tend to intolerance as do some religious world views?

Great topic for my first visit, as it was the first emotion I had to deal with transitioning from theist to atheism. How refreshing to share with people who could relate. Thanks Brian, for a wonderful first topic choice !!
