Somerset trail — 13km Class 4

Join us while we explore the Mt Mee area. Starting at our usual spot on Abbotsford Rd outside Bowen Hills train station we will drive to The Gantry at Mt Mee. We will have lunch at Somerset Lookout before returning to the Gantry. From there we will stop for coffee before returning to Brisbane.

This is the DERM description of the Somerset Trail. Beginning opposite The Gantry, this track passes through scribbly gum forests, rainforest and dry open forest. About halfway along enjoy views to the west overlooking Somerset and Wivenhoe dams. Parking is available at The Gantry carpark. Please bring your own water as there is no drinking water available along the trail.

What to bring: Yourself, 2 litres of water, lunch and snacks, a camera, insect repellent, money for coffee and a fun attitude.

Carpooling

We will meet outside Bowen Hills train station, on Abbotsford Road. Look for the CNW Data & Electrical store. We will leave there at 7am. If you are running late, send me a message as we won't be waiting otherwise.

For those people carpooling offer $15 to your driver.

Always a nice walk although the view was spoiled by cloud haze.

Graham - I attempted this walk on Tuesday last. The first hour went well (I've done this several times). Then I came to a big washout which looked prettty treacherous and I decided to return. This walk is not for the average stroller.

Hi Andrew, from the map it looks like a circuit about 700m starting from Gantry. If one side is washed out we can we take the other side to Somerset Lookout and return the same way. DERM site still has no alert about the washout but it is good to have ground knowledge. The walk is class 4 anyway. http://www.everytrail...

    • Andrew B.

Sorry Brij - this washout was four or five kilometres into the walk - not 700 metres. I was there.

We will meet you at the beginning of the trail but would appreciate confirmation of meeting place and approximate time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
