St George's Day Celebration

  • April 19, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Phil and Peggy Freeman's Ahwatukee Estate

The Scots have Hogmanay. The Welsh eat leeks on St David's Day. We all celebrate St Patrick's Day but poor old St George receives little or no recognition. It's time to slay this dragon of neglect and here in the Valley is where we will meet to plot our strategy, eat fine food and drink strong libations. Now we know that many of us are quite Americanized while others still dream of Blighty. So, in a spirit of inclusiveness, our theme for the evening will be "The Essence of Englishness: Iconic or Ironic". While not a requirement, we encourage you to bring traditional English foods and/or wear sterotypically English clothing. More important than either of those though is that you share your company with us.

Bring a dish. Bring a bottle and join us for another evening of food, drink and fun times with the Brits..

As an addendum, you may be interested in what they think about George back home - or at least what someone at the Beeb thinks.

Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this a really fun party for us. For those of you who may have noticed that the Union Jack was flying upside down, we apologize for the lack of flag etiquette.

If you left anything, let us know and we will get it to you. We have a jam pot and two plastic containers that are unclaimed.

I am so sorry - but I have to bow out. I have a presentation to give Monday and I'm swamped. So while I'd love to be there, with my Battenberg, I will have to pass tonight.

We're really looking forward to seeing everyone tonight. Don't forget to bring some food and some drink but don't sweat it.

We definitely have some over-achievers in that area and they are very much appreciated. But what is more important is that we have your company.

Here are directions if you need them.

Take Chandler Blvd. west from Interstate[masked]/2 miles to the light at 40th St/S. Mountain Parkway. Take a right and go about 1/3 mile to the first left which is Mountain Sky. Take an immediate left onto White Aster and drive down to the end of the cul-de-sac. We are on the right third house from the end.
