Welcome to the Brooklyn Filmmakers Group

Emerging technologies allow filmmaking to be more accessible and affordable; movies budgeted for as little as a few thousand dollars are empowering new independent filmmakers.

Filmmakers no longer have to devote time and energy to protracted and often fruitless attempts to find finance. They no longer have to cede creative control to financiers. Because digital video (DV) budgets are so much lower, filmmakers can make films more often, take more risks, and keep practicing their craft. An example is a five minute short on this page; shot all on a 200 dollar HD camera and edited on Final Cut Express.
Let’s meet and collaborate on scripts, organize production teams and share resources with those who need to be in the know. Let’s also network to find actors, writers, and crew quickly and easily.

This is going to be a little repetitive but worth noting. Please enter your preferred role or expertise, regardless of your experience:
If you’re interested in an acting role, please state Actor or similar.
If you are interested in camera work, please state Camera Person or similar. And if you own a camera please state what kind with extension involved. For an example, stating that you have a HV30 with DOF adapter would be helpful.

If you prefer post production, please state Post Production or similar. If you prefer to direct, whether it’s DP or straight directing, please state DP or Director. If you prefer to write please state Screenwriter, etc. I think you get the picture. If you prefer multiple roles please state accordingly.

It’s helpful to categorize these roles to achieve productive meetings; rather than having a hodgepodge of ideas and ego blending in a pool of alcohol, which has its place as well. Also, having a number of assistant organizers is helpful for group this size. Therefore, please let me know if anyone is interested about taking on these roles.
