How did you start belly dancing?

I began by improvising as a teenager at home in Puerto Rico. I had never seen a dancer but imagined how it might be. We had 4 records in all, one of which had an inspiring Greek song.

How long were you taking lessons before you performed for the first time?

I performed in college for the first time after 3 Middle Eastern dance lessons and watching other dancers perform. I had been studying modern, ballet, and jazz for a couple of years as well as drama.

How did you learn about the Broward County Bellydance Meetup Group

I have been in the Middle Eastern music and dance field for close to 30 years. I co-direct Harmonic Motion Middle Eastern Music and Dance Theater with Joe Zeytoonian. We work in South Fla. and internationally. Visit us at

What Myriam E. is saying about this Meetup Group

A couple of Oriental dancers, an Afro-Cuban dancer, dance supply store owners, a kefji, a few more musicians---it turned into a party!
