FFBMP walk in Huy (42/30/20/13/8km)

A FFBMP (federation of belgian walking clubs) walk is organised in Huy on June, 6th. The principle of those walks is quite simple: you arrive there, choose a circuit, register at the secretariat (0.75€), follow the arrows and come back at the starting point. The available distances are 42, 30, 20, 13 and 8 km.

The only information is here: http://www.ffbmp.be/WEBSITE/_Download/20140705LG182.pdf

And because I don't have more information, the traditional "some facts" section will be limited to the distances.

From an organisational point of view, there are some differences with the GR activities:

- no limited numbers of participants

- FFPMP are big scale events, there are checkpoints where you can buy drinks or something to eat, but it's of course recommended to take enough to drink and to eat.

- "subgroups" are formed according to the chosen loop and pace and are autonomous (the marking is good, there are a lot of people - especially on the small loops - so no risk to get lost), it's not the goal the group stays together. Everyone can walk closer to his/her ideal pace.

So, don't hesitate to use the comment section to:

• indicate your preferences for the distance

• propose another starting time if 8.15 doesn't suit you.

• to show that you've done more than just clicking "RSVP yes" in the invitation — the number of actual participants is usually much much lower than the number of "RSVP yes"...

My personal choice is to take the train at 8.23 at Bruxelles-Luxembourg and do the 42km loop at a "sporty" pace.

For the transportation, you need a return train ticket to Huy. There are trains every hour, the last train leaves Huy at 21.10 and arrives in Brussels in 22.40.

It Was a great hike, lovely company too :-) how did the 42 km people do? Did you get wet??

    1 · July 7, 2014

    • Renaud

We made it to the end, obviously ;) We had a lot of luck with the weather: there was only one heavy rainshower, that comes without warning, but we entered a checkpoint a few minutes before. For the rest, mostly dry and sometimes a very light rain.

  • Renaud

Hi, the meeting point is the main hall. Sorry to have forgotten to mention that. Finding the group will be easy, because of its size ;)

Given the weather forecast I think i will be fine with 30km tomorrow:) See you at the station!

  • Olga

Guys, what is the meeting point at Luxembourg station? How can i find the group?

    July 5, 2014

  • Paige

I'll meet at the Huy Station and hopefully do the 42 km distance, depending on the weather. Looking forward to it!

Hi, thanks for proposing this hike. I will go for 20 Km at a reasonable pace. I will take the train from Brussels Luxembourg at 8.23. Cheers !

  • Rodrigo

    I will go for 20km
I am planning to go by car. Where is the meeting point in Huy? and the starting time?

    July 3, 2014

    • Renaud

There's no formal meeting point in Huy, but if you wait at the station or the secretariat (address on the link given in the link mentioned in the description), we will be easy to spot. We will go directly from the station to the secretariat. About the hour: when the train arrives, which should be around 9.40. Just be there on time.

Key question: The weather forecast for Huy on Sunday is for 60-90% chance of rain. I don't mind walking in rain if there are breaks in the weather however five hours in steady rain isn't my preference. Renaud -- can you give us a gauge based on local knowledge of what we might expect?

    July 4, 2014

    • Nathalie

      Hello Eva,
I'm also a local and in Belgium you can never know what to expect.
Last Sunday I went for a hike, it was pouring down 5 min before I arrived at the starting point, then I walked 26 km and less than three for them were under the rain...
Frompast experience, you're always rewarded when going out for some exercise, but once again, this is nature we are talking about, not easy to predict.

Excellent. Exactly the positive and knowledgeable reply I needed.

I would go for 20-30 km, catching 8.23 train

Hi I will be travelling by train from Brussels Midi departing at 8.03 arriving Huy 09.57 so the 08.15 start is too early for me. I am thinking 20k would be best for me.

    July 3, 2014

  • Sil

    I think i ll go for 20 or 30

    July 2, 2014

  • Gosia

Hi Renaud, I will do my best to keep up with you and aim for 42....:)

    June 29, 2014

  • Eva

I am with Aurelie and Emilie to start with 20 km and possibly shoot for 30 km depending on the weather and the terrain.

    1 · June 29, 2014

  • Aurélie

I'll take the 8:23 train and do the 20 km at a reasonable pace (not as fast as Renaud)

    1 · June 27, 2014

  • André

    Renaud,
I responded YES on 23-Jun-2014, however I cannot see my name on the "Going" list anymore.

    June 25, 2014

    • Renaud

I also don't see you in the list, and have no explanation. Maybe can you try to join the activity again ?

      June 26, 2014

  • Hey Ma S

8 km or until i run out of energy :)

Thanks for organising Renaud! I'll go for the 30 km. An 8:23 start is fine. See you then!

    30km

    June 23, 2014

  • Jennifer

Hi! I'm up for the 8.23 train, I'll do my best to match Renaud's sporty pace and I think I'll do 20 km, good walk without over committing. Anyone else up for that?

    June 23, 2014

  • Nathalie

It's a very good choice! I did last year and the organisation is very good. But I'll probably go on Saturday. Have fun!

    June 23, 2014

  • Emilie

Hey! If anyone is interested i d like to try the 20 or 30k path. I guess we can decide half way on which one to choose. I do not mond starting at 8.15 to meet with the group :)
