The renowned Chinese New Year Parade will return in 2013 for the 40th time. To be held on Sunday, February 17th, 2013, this signature event of Vancouver's Chinatown will feature lion dances, cultural dance troupes, marching bands, martial arts performances and much more.

The Chinese New Year Parade celebrates the new year of the Chinese lunar calendar and is a fun-filled event for everyone to enjoy. As one of the three largest non-commercial annual parades in Vancouver, the Chinese New Year Parade features the largest assembly of traditional lion dance teams in Canada with dozens of colourful and energetic lions from the various local fraternal and martial arts organizations. Other highlights include multicultural dance troupes representing the diverse segments of our Canadian cultural heritage, the Vancouver Police Department Motorcycle Drill Team, marching bands and various community groups. The parade is expected to feature over sixty entries, bringing over 3,000 participants from various community and cultural groups.

Please wait outside International Village at the West Pender and Taylor Exit - http://goo.gl/maps/aaRFB
There are two benches there.

The parade doesn't start till 11am, but from my previous 2 years of organizing this in the past.. it's better that we go earlier, otherwise we will never get a good spot to see the parade (worse if it rains, coz everyone in front of you will be carrying umbrellas).

Some of us may want to go for lunch after this (I made reservations too in the past, but it's impossible for the restaurants to save spots for a large group simply cos' there's too many people.

As far as our meetup spot, where is the best place to park? Will I need Canadian currency to do so?

Any particular place you had in mind to park and take transit? I'm very unfamiliar with the area.

You should be able to park at Tinseltown they have 2 hour free parking, but not sure if there will be special events arrangements

    Hi all,

I changed my mind and decided to make a lunch reservation anyway (Hon's Wuntun House (on Keefer) - 12:30pm). I know some of you probably may want to go do other activities, so I've only made a rsvp for 20 people (we can always request more seats later if more decides to join). The rsvp is made under my name.

I know people can get really grumpy if they get hungry :p I organized the last 2 CNY parades (with a different website), people were complaining of hunger even before the parade ended. Haha!

    oh.. I forgot to mention:

We will only wait a maximum of 10 minutes for latecomers (and will walk toward the parade route after that). Because there's going to be lots of people, it's extremely challenging to try and find the rest of the group if you come later.

If you are late and have a hard time trying to find the group, you might be better off texting than calling one of us.. coz it's too loud to hear the phone ring with all the firecrackers and crowd going on constantly.

The official website for the parade is at http://www.cbavancouver.ca/para... if you want more information.
