Speaker list finalised: Entrepreneurship in Data Science

From: Zoltan C. T.

Just wanted to give you an update: Our speaker list is finalised and it seems that we are looking towards a very exciting meetup with a lot of stories, knowledge, and honesty.

1. The Scalien startup story

I had a NoSQL startup called Scalien. I worked very hard on it for almost 4 years until 2012. It became a part of me and consumed all my attention. When it failed I became depressed and my wife left me. But I will probably do another startup eventually. I will tell you what I learned in the process.

Márton Trencséni - Senior Data Engineer at Prezi, ex CEO Scalien

2. Radoop: Ups, downs and lessons learned from the past 2 years

Radoop has been started as a research pet project and shifted to a startup company 2 years ago. We had lots of challenges, several successes and many "aha" moments in the past 2 years while trying to become a global player in the big data analytics space. We are still far from reaching our goals, but we already have some interesting stories to share that might help you to get started.

Zoltán Prekopcsák - CEO, Radoop

3. The start-up journey: from algorithm to product

The talk presents how Gravity traveled along the usual start-up journey. The story begins when Netflix Prize ended, and Gravity team members decided to jump into the start-up scene to exploit their knowledge in the field of recommendation. In addition to finding investors we had to conceptualise and implement a product. This procedure took longer than expected, with many hills and valleys. Some lessons learnt during the productisation and product focused development are also shared.

Domonkos Tikk - CEO, Gravity R&D
