Meditation: Brief Metta Practice & Mindfulness Practice

Join us for our "first Thursday of the month" meditation practice -- a bit less formal and helpful to those who are new to mindfulness meditation in the tradition known as "Insight Meditation."

We begin our meditation with a brief metta (loving kindness) practice to make the mind open and compassionate, then begin concentration practice to develop the skill of focusing the mind on the breath and allowing thoughts to arise and depart without judging them or holding on to them.

Practice begins at 7:15 pm, but come early enough to say hello to folks and to settle in so that we can begin on time (and also, if you are new to meditation we can answer questions if you come a bit early). Total practice time is about 40 minutes. There is no fee but donations are gratefully accepted and are passed on to the UU Church with our thanks for the use of the sanctuary for our meditation practice. Afterward, stay for conversation/discussion. Hope to see you!

Note: Our practice for the third Thursday evening of each month is meditation in 'Noble Silence.' We keep silent from 7pm, when people begin to arrive, through the practice which begins with a bell at 7:15pm, and until the bell that ends the practice at 7:55pm.

Small group (seven total), but peaceful practice and very enjoyable talk afterward. Mix of those coming for the first time and those who have attended before. Thanks to you all for sharing the practice.
