Discovering Buddhism Course 101
Learn about the Buddhist path from the ground up. Who was the Buddha and his disciples, and the Eightfold Path? What is meditation? How do can you meditate? What are the Buddha teachings for lay people and what is the Shin path?
The Discovering Buddhism Course 101 is The New England Institute of Buddhist Studies’ (NEIBS) most popular course since 2004. This course covers numerous great books that survey the vastness of Buddhist tradition both Theravada and Mahayana. It not only gives the student an intellectual overview of Buddhism but emphasizes daily practice, that is, living the Buddha’s teachings as a practical vehicle for spiritual transformation.
This 6 month comprehensive course is known for its insightful class discussions and plenty of opportunities to learn and practice the necessary spiritual tools to help you awaken to the Oneness of Reality and discover your life’s purpose. This course is designed to explore Buddhism from the life of its founder to the very heart of Shin Buddhist spirituality.
Education: Participants must read all of the required books and are expected to do all assignments. This course is a wonderful foundation for our 8 month Spiritual Maturity and Leadership Course 201, starting in the following autumn.
