Habits and Change

I’d like to share an interesting line from the sci-fi movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”:
“You say we are on the brink of destruction and you are right. But it is only on the brink that people find the will to change. Only at the precipice do we evolve.”

This inspired some thought about our habits and the idea of changing ourselves... Let’s meet up and discuss!...

- Do you think the above quote is accurate? How, if at all, does it apply to our lives in terms of behavioral/lifestyle evolution?

- How can we become more aware of our habits when they are so – habitual!?

- Can we change ourselves / these habits? “Should” we change ourselves or accept ourselves as we are, according to Buddhist thought?

- Are attempts at change just another way of staying in control?

Here’s also a link to an interesting article on the topic of “bad” habits, to inspire some thought :)

The session ended with the meditation with her instruction of how to do it properly.
Only two session dates are left, so hurry if you are interested.

    Hi everybody,
I just like to share this information.
Since April 8, Japan society is having free Zen workshops on every Monday, led by Zen priest and teacher Bonnie Myotai Treace.
I just attended the tonight session, and it was a wonderful experience.
She talked about her experiences and the human sufferings, and according to her, creating the notion of self caused our sufferings because since then everything became what's inside and what's outside.
Hearing her very soft calm speaking voice with a very meditative quality itself seemed to worth attending this FREE workshop.
All you have to do is to send an e-mail to Japan Society or call them, and ask them to put you on the wait list. All date have been booked and there is a long waiting list, but many people do not show up. So you are almost guaranteed to get in.
