Buddhist Peace Fellowship - Tampa Bay: New Energy!
We are hoping that this meeting will open up opportunities for new people, new energy, new ideas, and new projects.
We will have a meditation and lunch as well as an open discussion of ideas.
Everyone is welcome!
When: Saturday, November 3, 2007; 9:30 am to 1:00 pm (late-comers are welcome -- arrive when you can)
Where: Chinese Community Church, [masked]th Ave N, Pinellas Park (not far from I-275, just north of Park Blvd -- click here for a Google map)
Who: Anyone with an interest in engaged Buddhism is welcome -- you need not be a member of the national BPF organization or a Buddhist group.
9:30 -- Silent meditation
10:00 -- Discussions about three main topics:
1) Discussion of the Situation in Burma, our recent gathering in support of the people of Burma, which was well attended, as well as future work and other projects
2) Selection of leaders: At least three volunteers who want to put some effort into making those projects a reality (the current leaders plan to resign).
3) "Tampa Bay Buddhist Council": Is there a group of people who want to work on forming a new organization that seeks to represent all local Buddhist groups? It would be separate from BPF, stress communication and consensus among groups, and sponsor ecumenical events like Change Your Mind Day. Having such an organization might give BPF more latitude in addressing controversial issues.
11:30 -- Pot-luck vegetarian lunch with informal discussion.
12:30 -- Final decisions.
The main meeting will include short opening presentations by current officers, and open discussion (proposals and short comments).
During lunch we will have informal conversations; after lunch we will have a short period of silent meditation and then vote on decisions (seeking consensus, but valuing action above unanimity).
