Let's go for an end of Autumn hike at the Iroquios National Wildlife Refuge. This is just north of Pembroke, and I think we will start with the Kanyoo Trail which is easy to access from the expressway and Route 77. Plan to meet at the Kanyoo Trail Parking area, and if that is not long enough of a walk (1.3 mil), we can do a second lap or walk along Feeder Road for a while.

This is about 40 minutes from Buffalo, so if anyone wants to try carpooling, post offers or requests in the comments and we can attempt that too.

Walk the storied perimeter of the fomer Buffalo State Asylum. Surrounded by Olmsted landscaping, this is the largest and greatest of H.H. Richardson's creations influenced the much emulated Richardsonian Romanesque syle (Interior tours haven't been avilable since 2003).

This is a good way to get some history and it fits in with the Halloween season. The tour is $10, and runs for 2 hours. According to the brochure if anyone is a student its $5. Meet at the gate at Forest Ave & Richmond Ave.

This is/should be a fairly easy hike, I never have fully explored the area, but there is a nice stream with a little waterfall in the Park, we can check that out, and all the trials. It shouldn’t take too long to explore the area.

I have never done this hike, but I know when Pete posted it back in April a lot of people rsvp for it and it was rained out. If anyone has any questions or needs further details on directions. Check the website out for directions, or contact Seth or I regarding directions.

Since there was so much interest in the Sailing event a couple of weeks ago, we will do anonther one this weekend. Just showup at the sailing center at the south end of RCR Yachts river marina, (right under the Skyway) dressed for the conditions and with $20. Everyone will be issued a life jacket, given a quick instruction brief, assigned to a boat and off we go. No experience is neccessary, and skilled captains lead each boat. Check out the website for the Seven Seas Sailing Center if you need more information.

The sailing lasts for about two hours, with a time of food, visiting and storytelling afterwards.

Seven Seas Sailing Center has a Friday night sailing event open to people with any or no experience. Their experienced captains will take out anyone who shows up in 20-30 foot sailboats (small enough to be fun and near the water, big enough that there is no danger of getting wet) for about two hours, and then people can hang out and tell stories/eat food afterwards. There is a modest cost of $20 per person. I have discovered sailing this summer, and it is relaxing, exciting, beautiful and intriguing all at the same time.

The Sailing center is underneath the Buffalo Skyway at the RCR Yachts River Marina. Getting there is slightly challenging due to the cronstruction on Route 5. You have to be going North on Route 5, and take the last exit ramp just before the highway becomes elevated and goes over the harbor, then turn towards the Coast Guard station, and take the first right into the river Marinas. Seven Seas is at the southern end of the RCR marina. for more information, look at the website http://sevenseassailing.com , or shoot me a message. I will be there, and hope to see some of you too.

We will Hike at Hunters Creek, an undeveloped county park near East Aurora. There are tons of twisty windy trails here to hike some hills, with roots and rocks, and mud, and a creek to see. This is an easy place to get turned around in so I will bring my GPS along. Plan on hiking all afternoon, so bring a friend, water, and a snack, and if you have a dog that enjoys hiking bring them too!

Feel free to bring a guest (don’t worry about the RSVP for them).

Serious RSVPS only please

Check out this Google maps link for the best directions to get there!
