Fartlek Cycling

"Fartlek", which means "speed play" in Swedish, is a form of conditioning which puts stress mainly on the aerobic energy system due to the continuous nature of this exercise. The difference between this type of training and continuous training is that the intensity of the exercise varies putting stress on both the aerobic and anaerobic systems. This is very much like "interval training" however, much less organized. For example...we will use terrain, the wind, or our fellow BOMrs to get INSPIRED for "attacks" of various lengths. Motivation is the key inspiration for this type of training. As these sessions are Ride for Roswell training...Fartleks cycling will be held every Tuesday morning till the July 11th.
Starting out in beautiful Deleware Park, each session will begin with a 5 minute warm up followed by Fartleks. These Fartleks will start at 60 seconds of high intensity cycling followed by 60 seconds of recovery. We will do this 5 times during the ride. Each week we will increase the Fartlek by 30 seconds till we get to 3 minutes then we will increase the intervals. Should we have time afterwards we will do a slow paced recovery ride. We START at 6 AM so be a few minutes early
