For this 1st Monday meetup, Joe will be taking a deep dive into the door card swipe system. The main purpose of this is to transfer the knowledge about the system to the members so that we can continue to maintain it and improve the system after Joe moves to Tennessee.
This will consist of a description of the hardware which includes an Arduino component at the door which handles the card reader and the door lock mechanism. It communicates using Zigbee Radio to a Raspbberry Pi which performs the user verification and communicates back to the Arduino to open the door.
The software components of this system will be reviewed in depth to provide a detailed understanding how the system works and what we need to do to maintain it.
This will demonstrate a very real world application on two of the common platforms used in the hobbyist community.
Stop in on Monday and be prepared to learn.
