Welcome, NW-Chicago/Near North-Suburban Lady Book Lovers!

Our ladies-only book club turned 6 years old in September '09 and has shared 60+ books. Our meetings are filled with lively conversation and we have fun with the theme of each book by tying in food or an activity.

Generally, we meet the first Friday of the month from 7-9PM on the far morthwest side of Chicago. Our most usual meeting site is near Devon & Central in Chicago, in the neighborhood known as Edgebrook. Check out our FILES for help with directions, including use of public transportation.

Check out our "ABOUT US" tab on the blue banner to the left of our home page to view a list of books-read-to-date. One of the wonderful aspects of our book club is how we share book ideas and end up reading books many of us may otherwise may not have picked up on our own.

I do not charge membership dues. Instead, members contribute time & talent by reading, by coming to meetings & discussing, and by bringing snacks that tie in to the theme of the book, however tangentially. Members pay their own share when we go to a restaurant or outside event.

Meetings may include:
- read, see play/movie (ex: Wicked, The Color Purple)
- "DINE & DISCUSS"meetings, usually at restaurant (ex: Italian food when we read Galileo's daughter)
- bring & share a snack/recipe/beverage
- BBQ (ex:Indian food when we read Pomegranate Soup)
- share our December tradition: High Tea
- "BEAD & READ" (when we meet at our sponsor's shop!)
- High Tea every December

Our ladies span the gamut in age and in stage of life. We have college/grad students, professionals including teachers, lawyers, doctors, realtors, and other working folks, and we have stay-at home moms & retirees. This makes for rich discussions. Books are voted in by our members several months ahead of time because we really are all "busy bees" and need to budget our time to get the book - or reserve it from the local library, and read it. We also bring books to swap at our meetings.
