Musicke in the Ayre: Melissa Scott (mezzo) and Din Ghani (lute and archlute) will be performing 17th century songs by Dowland, Purcell, Caccini, Monteverdi and Strozzi. Tea and cakes somewhere afterwards is a distinct possibility!
Concert is free, but you have to pay to enter the museum: £7.50 admission, but named guests pay the concession rate of £5.00 - reception will have a list of names (which will include all those who RSVP'd by midday on the 17th).
For those who love "early" music; starting from 16th century renaissance music up to about the baroque music of the 18th century. Hopefully, we'll find some concerts using original instruments - so you can experience sackbuts, hurdy gurdys, viola di gambas, serpents and other extraordinary things. This group is also for those who know nothing about this type of music but who would like to explore "new" music - you might even get hooked on the wonders of polyphony and false relations (nothing to do with families). Concerts will mostly be in London and the home counties, probably as far as darkest Oxfordshire. We will almost certainly sneak in composers of the Classical and Romantic eras (who could ever exclude Mozart?) Members are welcome to suggest concerts that they hear of locally, or that they are singing or playing in which are of semi-professional or professional standard.
