Hey, Anybody growing food with water barrels?

1 barrel grows 50 + plants, is built for sustainable irrigation, takes less space and costs less than a new garden bed.

Anybody growing food with water barrels?

    For a community garden:
    1 garden barrel = 1 garden plot
1 garden plot = 1 additional community garden member at cheaper cost than building new beds
1 additional community garden member = 1 additional FoodBank grower.
Average plants per barrel = 35 to 50

    80 + community gardens in Calgary: 80 community gardens x 2 barrels = 160 barrel gardens

    35 plants per barrel x 160 barrels = 2,800 plants

Anybody growing food with water barrels?

    Please pass the word.

Hi, I just moved to Calgary from Vancouver. Does anyone here know what the bylaws are on planting gardens on City property (like the grassy strip next to public sidewalks)?

Hello Brian and Renate. Please check out Landshare Canada's tutorial ( It's essentially a free web platform that connects growers to people with land to share. Helpers (experienced or not; labour or knowledge) are also welcome on the website. Everyone can create her own blog and upload pictures, videos and ask questions to the community. Check us out! We just launched a week ago. We are also on Facebook and Twitter.
