Patriots:

We have campaign fliers, pamphlets and handouts ready for the anti-income tax campaign. There are seven in total in the "Files" section of the meetup group. (It's on the left hand navigation menu.) Each handout is back and front, and as you print out the handouts you will see how to fold them. The titles of the files are:

Anti-Income Tax Handouts, 1
Anti-Income Tax Handouts, 2

The files are high quality PDFs (about 8MB each), so make sure you're not using dial-up when downloading! I would have made them smaller sizes, but that would have required a sacrifice in quality.

There is soon to be a third and final batch for your consumption, so please let me know soon if you have any ideas you want to see made into literature.

In Liberty,

So I think Linda brought up an excellent point in an email. We should definitely try to tailor these flyers in a way that they make people openly discuss and think about what the hell our money is even being spent on, i.e. our imploding entitlements programs and our imperialism.

Whenever I tell people that I support the abolition of the income tax, they look at me like I'm nuts because they think either poor people will die, we'll get bombed by terrorists immediately, or a combination of both will occur. We should really include some stats like the fact that the Income Tax was only 45% of federal revenue in 2007-8 and if we revert spending back to 2000 levels, we don't even need one. (RP says this, right?)

Another argument that should be addressed is the common: But federal revenue as a % of GDP has been going down since 2000. BUT this reduction in federal revenue has created a long-term structural problem for the federal budget, since spending levels have not changed to the same degree. Also, during the late 90s Clinton just made it all look pretty by balancing the CURRENT budget while increasing the DEFICIT every year in office.

Finally, I agree with Drew and Jim and Evan that no one buys the argument that the law does not exist. The courts interpret the law in this country and I've only heard of ONE case where they interpreted in the citizens' favor.

P.S. Tom Jefferson WAS mentioned in the flyers and Ben Franklin is a just as big of a celebrity (i.e. no one cares either way). Biggie is a great idea. Should we call Mrs. Wallace for permission to use his pic on there?

Number one:

The flyers are awesome. Some people say that it sounds so simple that a 2 year old wrote it. Well, it should be simple, or else people will toss it in the garbage.

Some comments about the half page flyers with statements, websites, Founding Father and Kennedy quotes:

1. The picture of Ron Paul, some people tell me, reminds people of Che Guevarra. Minor, minor, minor point.

2. We can have easy-to-remember websites that point directly
I can register a domain, and create a small website which links directly to Google video,
so people can watch documentaries easily. For example, I can register a domain like
roadtofascism.us, and the website for that can be a simple black screen with basic info,
and an embedded Google video screen.

We can do this for any video.

3. The quotes take up a lot of space. Is there
anything else we want to put on the 2nd page ?

What are you using to make these? The Biggie flyer is hilarious! This might actually work, especially if we can get some websites on there.

Well, the movement is in full swing. Everyone is giving their input. It was a slow start to this NYC Fights the Income Tax Campaign but here we are, everyone on board and coming up with great ideas. I think the fliers are great! I think the tone is right. We are trying to inspire. I think there are some good qoutes especially the one from Kennedy. He was a man that the American peope trusted and still seem to. His opinion may matter to some. The information pulled from the sources compiled was put together well and informative enough to spark some interest in the reader. I think its important to note that the handouts aren't going to sell people alone. I can't remember the last time I was inspired so much by a pamplet or handout that I was compelled to act. People are much more effective at accomplishing that. Honestly, I think, the burden is much more on us than it is on the handout. This is just a means that they can remember our message by. At every opportunity we should be trying to inform and inspire through our words and our actions. As suggested, we need to be canvassing the businesses around the city and encouraging them to take part in our efforts to restore prosperity to our businesses and communities. If they don't understand how the income tax affects them (which I can't imagine that they don't) we can inform them. They can put fliers in their windows, share our literature with their employees and perhaps join us on April 15th. We should inspire them to take actions that are in their own interest. It was also suggested that we post in front the H&R blocks around the city, handing out literature and talking to people. I believe there are still a few locations unmanned. And remember, if you don't grab the attention or spark the interest of the recipient when you're giving them the handout, no matter how great it is, the chances of them paying attention to it later are, for the most part dead in the water. That said, with all these great new suggestions, I'm sure the artist of this literature will come up with something that incorporates all our ideas and the that we are content with.

On with the Revolution!

My doctor says his friends don't pay income taxes. One or more of them, over the years got caught out by the IRS and they took them to court. They went to court, got lawyers, and won. They still don't pay income taxes.

FYI.

Do you have a docket number or an indictment number? If you do, I can log into the federal court system and print up the pleadings, peruse them, and incorporate the legal findings into the literature.

If you do have the info, please post it and we can put it on the fliers. Without this specific information this story is of no use to us. It's hearsay.

I think you guys are getting off topic.

I don't think it matters one way or another if there are 5 or 500 successful people who "beat the IRS".

Is this really why there should be no income tax? Simply because there is no properly ratified law? So we're all A Ok with slavery pre 1800s because it WAS in compliant with the letter of the law?

Or aren't we discussing what the law SHOULD be, independent of its current state?

Well, no, it's not really off topic. Let's say I don't want there to be an income tax. There are two ways to do that: either get the laws repealed using the legislature, or have common law rulings used by petitioners against the government claiming legal rights have been violated by unconstitutional governmental action that takes the form of the income tax or occurs in the process of collecting same. If such actions brought to court were decided in our favor, they would in effect be reprimanding the legislature and would void certain actions by the government in its enforcement of the income tax.

Sure, I'm not one for judicial activism, but if it has been proven in a court of law that a person has the right to abstain from paying the income tax in a particular set of circumstances, then we should definitely be letting everyone know about it. If there indeed exists a way to legally subvert the income tax, we want to do that. Not only that, we should let people know that there are ways in which they can avoid paying the tax. Like giving copious amounts of money to charity. Isn't charity another pillar of the Ron Paul Revolution?

My only problem is that I do not believe any application to the judiciary has been successful in such a way that we can readily transmit that information to the general public, or in a way that hasn't already been remedied by the courts and/or legislature.

It's really a matter of "what can you do through the judiciary to restore your legal rights personally since the courts have said they have been violated by unconstitutional governmental action" or "what can you do through the legislature to restore Americans' natural rights because we have determined as a people that they have been violated through constitutional governmental action." Both are violations of rights if the former can be proven to be true. And the latter indicates that repealing the 16th is the only way to fight an immoral yet legal law, like slavery.

That being said, I don't think there's an effective way to spread the message of restoration through the judiciary inasmuch as the precedents therein are few, most people aren't going to sue the government to get their income tax payment back and the idea of explaining a few court cases in detail, which would be required to even have a chance at convincing someone, seems far-fetched.

I think the only real message we can spread about the income tax as pertains to the judiciary is that jury nullification in criminal tax evasion cases can be used as a means of civil disobedience that cannot be penalized as a crime. That is the power of our jury system and if we set precedents and patterns of jury behavior in our favor, perhaps the grassroots anti-income tax movement will gain greater strength.

On another note, I have been collecting everyone's ideas and contributions regarding the campaign and I will send out a summary/list of contributions in a little bit.
