Silver Falls State Park, the sequel

Slight change in plans. Some people need to get back earlier so we'll plan an 8:15 meeting and 8:30 departure. If you have not already, please confirm you have received this notice.

By popular demand, another trip to Silver Falls. Silver Falls is one of the prettiest spots in Oregon! We'll hike the Trail of Ten Falls one-way, starting at the North Falls, leaving a shuttle car at South Falls. The hike is about 5 miles, and really does pass 10 different waterfalls. The trail goes behind two of the falls. A highlight for me is the "tree casts" in the ceiling of the cave behind the falls where the lava hardened around a tree millions of years ago. Plus, the waterfalls themselves are pretty spectacular at this time of year too.

This is a fairly easy hike, suitable for children, but dogs aren't allowed. It costs $5 per car to enter the park. The park is located 26 miles east of Salem, or about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Eugene. Please bring $10/person for gas for drivers.

Bring something for lunch, and some water and clothing appropriate for whatever weather changes might occur.

We'll meet in Albertson's parking lot at 8:15 to get to know each other and plan to leave at 8:30. We should be back by 5pm.

Any questions, contact sandor.lau(at)gmail.com or phone[masked] 8528. Full disclosure, I have not been here before but had a description from Bill. This hike is further described in William Sullivan's book, 100 Hikes in the Oregon Cascades which is available at fine booksellers or local libraries.

I always love this hike. The falls are spectacular at any time of year. We even saw a good sized trout!

Does anyone object to an 8:30 departure? We have some people who need to return to Eugene a little earlier.
