Spencer's Butte Weekly Sunset Hike - 6/12/2013

Sunset - 8:56 p.m.

To keep the group going, I've decided to set up a regular Spencer's Butte Sunset Hike every week on Wednesday evening.

Each hike will officially leave about one hour before sunset, although you can start earlier or later and join the group at the top. I'm not going to cancel any hikes regardless of the weather. If you go on all of these, you'll be in shape before you know it! Don't wait for me or anyone else at the parking lot unless you want to. Just leave at the designated time and we'll all meet at the top. (Note: don't go alone unless you know the trail well.)

We'll take the main trail, so go straight ahead from the parking lot (don't take the trail on the left). Walk 1/2 mile and stay left at the trail junction. Then it's 1/2 mile to the top, with 800 feet elevation gain. It gets rocky near the top, so look for 3" round metal trail markers attached to the rocks.

Civil twilight, bright enough to see, only lasts about 30 minutes after sunset. So be sure to bring a headlamp or a flashlight, since we'll be walking the last part in the dark. For safety, please walk with at least one other person, and bring your cell phone. If you're the second to the last person, make sure the last person isn't left behind!

Getting together after the hike at a restaurant or bar is highly encouraged. See you this Wednesday.

Was good to get in a sunset hike again. It had been awhile. Good to see everyone and meet some new people as well.

Nobody ever answered... as sunset is so late now, do you still get together after the hike, for something to eat/drink? I kind of miss this, most especially the after, and was thinking I could just go as far as the rocks, read some, then walk back down with y'all, and be able to go out after... at least until I build up some conditioning... can not take those rocks... but, as I said, kinda miss this event... *Smile*

Hey, it's my day off! // We usually go out after, but not every time. Stopping at the rocks would be fine, although it would probably be better to go back and wait in the car instead of at the rocks in the dark.

Hmmmmmm... you usually left just as it got dark, and the rocks, going down, were quick, on the few I did do, earlier in the year... does everybody hang around longer at the top, with the warmer, drier weather? Just curious, not dismissing your idea. Are you thinking the downside to my waiting might be I might miss you guys coming back down? That hadn't occurred to me... I know someone said before that a cat was spotted one time... I don't know why, should, but that doesn't worry me...

      Thanks for the input!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
