New Meetup: South Waldo Lake - SUNDAY

Announcing a new Meetup for Eugene Hiking & Camping Meetup Group!

What: South Waldo Lake - SUNDAY

When: August 16,[masked]:00 AM

Albertsons @ Hilyard & E 30th
3075 Hilyard St
Eugene, OR 97405

Since I'll be at Waldo Lake all weekend, we'll do the South Waldo Lake hike again on Sunday to give more people a chance to go. This one is really worth it!

I'll be camping in my 16 foot (tiny) trailer at Shadow Bay Campground from Friday (morning) to Sunday. I'll also have a 9 foot (very tiny) sailing-rowing-electric.motoring dinghy.

When you get there, around 11 SUNDAY Morning, we'll hike 1.5 miles to a sandy beach just past the South Waldo Shelter. I may ferry picnic supplies and/or non-hikers to the beach in my boat. Anyone with a canoe or kayak should bring it and be part of the naval fleet.

We'll then hike about 1.5 more miles from the beach to a huckleberry field near Bingo Lake for (hopefully) dessert.

Without a doubt, Waldo Lake is THE most spectacular lake in Oregon. (Crater Lake is pretty cool too, but you can't take your boat there). Waldo is so clear I get afraid of heights when I look into the water. The views are incredible too.

This is a level, and easy hike, and is great for kids.

To park at the trailhead (boat ramp) you'll need a NW Forest Pass for each car, or feed the pay station $5 for the day.

Directions to trailhead: Take Hwy 58 to milepost 59 and turn left at Waldo Lake pointer (1st left turn lane after Salt Creek Falls). Go 6.7 miles and take first left at Shadow Bay Campground sign. Go straight 2 miles to the boat ramp parking area (don't turn into campground). I'll be there by 10:30 to launch the boat.

Please sign up soon since time is short for planning.
