Dear Bill...
I wanted to thank you again for driving on Saturday.  For my first snowshoeing event I had a wonderful time.  I would like to join this hike, but am not sure I will be able to spend the night as I don't have proper spend the night gear like tent or sleeping I would like to do the hike most likely...
The meet time is 8:30 pm on saturday?  Even for the day hike only?  Let me know and thanks again...I am looking forward to doing more witht his group.

Subject: [camping-162] New Meetup: Bechtel Shelter Snowshoe Hike With Optional Overnight

Announcing a new Meetup for Eugene Hiking & Camping Meetup Group!

What: Bechtel Shelter Snowshoe Hike With Optional Overnight

When: Saturday, February 6,[masked]:30 PM

Albertsons @ Hilyard & E 30th
3075 Hilyard St
Eugene, OR 97405

We'll carpool from Albertson's and drive up to the Gold Lake Snopark, the same place where we went for the Moonlight Snowshoe Hike. This time, we'll hike in the other direction about 2 miles, mostly uphill, to the Bechtel Shelter. We'll start a fire in the shelter wood stove, and maybe roast some hot dogs (or tofu dogs) for lunch.

After lunch, campers we'll set up camp, either in the shelter sleeping loft (2 or 3 people), or in tents nearby.

Day trippers will then walk back down the road to the Snopark and drive back. Day trippers are welcome to use cross-country skis instead of snowshoes.

I'll be bringing 2 or 3 pulk sleds to haul camping gear, and maybe use to go sledding on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday morning we'll take the scenic route back, passing Midnight Lake and Eagle Rock (Odell Lake viewpoint). I have a video from 2 years ago that shows most of the route, as well as how the sled works at the following URL :

Be prepared for rain, snow, and cold. Campers need a good sleeping bag (20 degree or lower) and sleeping pad. No jeans or cotton!
