Cascade River State Park

I have reserved drive in site #A5 at Cascade River State Park (North Shore) for June 20-22. You will have to reserve your own campsite. There are many campsites nearby still available, including several that should have lake views.

I will have a campfire at my site. All I ask is a $5 donation per person.
E-mail me if you have any questions.

More details to follow.... I just wanted to get this event posted.

Great first trip with the group. Weather could have been better, but not the company. I shall return.

Fantastic trip, even with the cold and fog! Great group of people (and dogs!) -- loved the hike, loved cooking together, loved the little excursion into Grand Marais. Looking forward to seeing you all on future trips!

Great hike! Beautiful falls to see. Very nice park. Enjoyed everyone camping.

I'm here in A14 across from Debbie's site. Is anyone else here? Let me know. What site is everyone in?

Leaving now. Hope to be there at 5:30.

Rain canopy, waterproof matches, dry bags all seem appropriate for this weekend. They forgot rain suit, though! LOL

I found this link to a nice set of "Gear Checklists" for outdoor trips and though I would share.

If you're unable to get the site, you're welcome to park at my site.

  • Margie

Hi, Barbara, thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately I just got a call from my sister, and we're going to have to cancel all together. I'm bummed out because I was really looking forward to this. Have a great time, to all attending. Hope to make it another time.

    June 19, 2014

  • Barbara

Margie, I sent you an e-mail. Let me know when you want me to cancel. I need to do it soon since I have reservations starting tonight.

    June 19, 2014

  • Margie

Barbara, please let me know. Right now we're sharing a site with Grady, but won't be able to have our car on the site, so if you'll tell me what time you plan to cancel, I'll get online and be ready to catch your site. My e-mail is [masked]. Thanks.

    June 19, 2014

  • Barbara

I have to cancel due to illness. I have site C4 reserved and will cancel Thursday morning. If anyone is interested in it, let me know and I will let you know as soon as I cancel so you can grab it quick.

    June 18, 2014

    • Debbie

Sorry that you can't make it, Barbara. Thanks for the heads-up about the reservation.

      June 19, 2014

  • Margie

    Is the detour well marked?

    June 18, 2014

    • Cherie

I don't the detour would start until Saturday when the actual race starts. Just take the Express way once you get out of the city limits.

      June 18, 2014

    • Margie

We're coming in on Saturday, so we'll hit it, wherever it begins.

      June 18, 2014

  • Brett

I went through the detour a few years ago and it wasn't bad. Most of the marathon is on the scenic route.

    June 18, 2014

  • Margie

I may have missed this, but is everyone aware that Grandma's Marathon is this weekend? Duluth may be a bit dicey to traverse on Friday. We're coming on Saturday and will have to take a detour.

    June 18, 2014

  • Grady

I'm hoping to be up there by dark.

    June 16, 2014

  • patty

    Hope to arrive early afternoon.

    June 15, 2014

  • Debbie

I was planning on 3pm arrival, but it looks more like 5 pm. Let's plan on gathering at my campsite at 6:30. I'll have a campfire going for those who would like to cook over it. Don't forget a chair. If everyone can donate $5 for firewood, we'll have a great supply for campfires. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate!

    June 15, 2014

  • Barbara

what time is everyone arriving on Friday?

    June 15, 2014

    • Cherie

I'm hoping to get there about noon. I live up north so it's about a 2 hour drive. Traffic will be heavy around Duluth since it is Grandma's Marathon that weekend.

      June 15, 2014

  • Barbara

Does this place have bear boxes?

    June 9, 2014

    • Debbie

I agree with Cherie. Best to lee all food in the vehicle. AND, keep a clean campsite. I don't think they have bear boxes at MN STATE PARKS, but I could be wrong.

      June 10, 2014

    • Barbara

I know that Split Rock has them and I think Tettagouche has them too but it didn't say anything about them at Cascade. I would think they would all have them since there are bears in that whole area.

      June 10, 2014

  • Dan

@ Julie - I have the same issue where there are no sites avail at this time. I plan to go a few days early so will get one of the non-reservables the day of. You are welcome to pitch your tent I believe two per site is ok.

    1 · May 24, 2014

    • Alexa

If 2 tents per site is allowed, I am also willing to share - I am at A7.

      May 24, 2014

    • Alexa

Not sure how many people are coming w/ me, so I need to rescind my offer to share my site...

      June 2, 2014

  • Margie

My sister and I would like to come, but we can't make it until late afternoon on Saturday. Do you think someone will have room for another tent on their site? If so, we'll sign up. If not, we'll have to pass.

    June 1, 2014

  • Grady

I have B07 reserved and anyone is welcome to the tent pad. I'm not sure what size it is, but as Sue said, you should be able to find out on the web site.

    May 30, 2014

    • Grady

      Tent pad is 8' x 8'

      May 30, 2014

  • Debbie

Thanks, Grady. I wish they would say that on the State Parks website, instead of "maximum one tent per site."

    May 28, 2014

    • Debbie

I was thinking the same thing. I'll make a follow up call and will pat the outcome of that conversation.

      May 29, 2014

    • Debbie

I just confirmed with CRSP that they will allow 2 tents on one site. However, both tents must fit within the tent pad. Pad sizes vary as you can find this information within the reservation section of the park website. The pad at my site is on the small side, but if anyone has a larger pad and could share, that's be great.

      May 30, 2014

  • Grady

Oh, and a maximum of 6 people.

    May 28, 2014

  • Grady

I just got a clarification from Cascade River park and we are allowed 3 items on each site (vehicle, tent or rv) which means someone can have a tent on my site and park their car in the lot. Someone could even have an RV and two tents. Lots of room.

    May 28, 2014

  • Debbie

Please be aware that Minnesota State Parks allow one tent per site, not two. I should have reserved the group camp site, but I had no idea there would be south interest. Lesson learned!

    May 24, 2014

  • Grady

I have a site reserved for my trailer but think a tent is also allowed if someone needs a site.

    May 24, 2014

  • Julie

I just looked and I didn't see any available sites. Just wondering if maybe I'm doing something wrong. Does anyone else see any sites available? Just checkin...:=)

    May 22, 2014

    • Debbie

      They keep some

      May 22, 2014

    • Barbara

Yes, all the reservable sites are gone, but there are several (circled in yellow) that can be reserved the day you get there (get there early!) Too bad we can't share sites, or you could share with me.

      May 22, 2014

  • Debbie

Just a reminder that you will need to reserve and pay for your own campsite for this meetup. I'll collect $5 each camper on Friday night to cover the cost of the firewood I'll have for us at my campsite.

    April 2, 2014

    • Jim R

Thanks Debbie! I just reserved C02 (one of two sites left!) Jim

      April 2, 2014

    • Debbie

Haha...good! That explains the thought that I had better send out a reminder!

      April 2, 2014

  • Grady

I managed to get a little closer to everyone by moving over to B07. See you there.

Glad to see so any people sign up for this this outing! Grady - I don't see your name on the RSVP list....please add your name. Thanks, all!

    March 19, 2014

  • Grady

Hi All. This will probably be my first outing with the group and I'm looking forward to it. Sites were filling up, but I managed to reserve B13. I've got a new little teardrop trailer that's supposed to arrive by the end of April.

    March 18, 2014

  • patty

Yep, bringing my dog! Can't remember what campsite I reserved. But I will be there!

    March 17, 2014

I just signed up for site #C4. Looking forward to going and meeting new people! I will actually be there on Thursday night to Sunday.

  • Debbie

Great, Cherie. Looking forward to seeing you, again!

    December 3, 2013

  • Cherie

Debbie I booked a site right across from yours in A 14. I was glad I looked at the map because I was going to take A6 next to yours but after looking at the map it was way down the road from you. The map was sure number funny.
