Stone Plus One Canyon - 3A-III

Stone Plus One Canyon is located in the Big Tujunga section of the San Gabriel Mountains. This canyon is a 2.7 mile, 6-8 hour, 3A-III trip requiring rappelling, down climbing, scrambling, a 1500ft relatively-steep approach ascent, and a possibly-wet river crossing. About 10 raps: 50ft, 70ft, 50ft, 15ft, 40ft, 80ft+60ft, 35ft, 50ft, 50ft, 35ft.

Located north of Burbank/Tujunga, about 7 miles up Big Tujunga Canyon Rd from Foothill Blvd. Since the gate to Wildwood parking area is closed, enter from Vogel Flat Rd (GPS [masked],[masked]) and then turn right at the T-junction for Stoneyvale Rd. Continue about 0.7 mile north-west to a dirt pull-off on the left here: GPS[masked],-118.234485. Loop hike, no vehicle shuttle necessary. Elevation is about[masked]ft. Participants should have at least a “low-intermediate" skill set.

Limit 8 participants, plus waiting list. If the waiting list contains people capable of forming a second gear-independent and navigation-independent team (and a person qualified/willing to lead it), it might be possible to split into two teams and include more participants.

Required gear:

@TEAM: (Minimum) 200' rope, 120' rope, 120' rope, 50' webbing, 4 rapides.

@INDIVIDUAL: harness, helmet, descender, prusiks, locking biners, food/water, and any other typical personal gear.

    Strenuous but easy on-trail approach and exit access. A bit of bushwhacking in canyon. Water flowing at about 1/3cfs. About 6 hours. Several bolt stations need repair or improvement. Removed one defective bolt that was only an inch deep in crumbling rock. Great to meet you all. Cheers.
